Something funny happened last week: A liberal Democrat from Chicago, running on a ticket with a liberal from Delaware, won the White House by a comfortable margin. And while Barack Obama did actually win three states in the South, his triumph should do away with the notion that a “Southern strategy” is essential to the Democratic Party’s long-term viability at the presidential level.
What Is That Smell?
...ah, yes--it is the smell of the freshly-smelted Pulitzer Prizes yet to be awarded. But who will win? Will one of the many tribute cartoons to Sean Taylor's passing upset Mr. Tornoe's strong "Tim Russert's Empty Desk" or "Peace Begins With A Smile"?
Be careful Tornoe: one day, you could find yourself in your office, surrounded by Pulitzers, completely unaware that your many many adoring fans are ceaselessly thumbing through dog-eared compilations of your cartoons. They might even misinterpret a witty and clever homage to one of your own 7-year old cartoons as plagiarism, or laziness. That, my friend, is one gift-horsey that should not be looked in the mouth.
On voit, alors, on s'engage!
