Tornoe's Toons: Obama and Exelon...so happy together

When Illinois residents learned that the Exelon Corporation had not disclosed radioactive leaks at one of its nuclear plants, Barack Obama was there to stand up to the corporate giant.
Obama scolded Exelon and federal regulators for inaction and introduced a bill to require all plant owners to notify state and local authorities immediately of even small leaks.
But then, Obama rewrote the bill, completely watering it down and removing language mandating prompt reporting and simply offered guidance to regulators.
Fast forward to the 2008 presidential campaign. Exelon employees and others close to the company have given almost $237,000 to Obama, according to Opensecrets.org.
And according to the Baltimore Sun, one of Obama's biggest fundraising bundlers is Frank M. Clark, chairman of Commonwealth Edison, the big Illinois utility owned by Exelon. Exelon director John W. Rogers Jr., chief of mutual fund company Ariel Capital Management, also has given thousands to Obama.

On Thursday, John McCain at last did away with all above-the-fray pretense and added his voice to the right-wing chorus now openly trying to portray Barack Obama as a fundamentally anti-American figure. The McCain campaign is going for maximum emotional effect, hoping that voters in the post-9/11 era will be sufficiently suspicious when they are told that a black candidate with a Muslim-sounding name has “ties” to a “terrorist.” And actually, the technique really isn’t new.

That’s fear. They know they can’t win on the issues, so the last resort they have is race and fear.”
