City Announces ‘Citi Bike’

Earlier today, flanked by Department of Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan and MasterCard CEO Ajay Banga, Mayor Michael Bloomberg unveiled the new corporate sponsors of the city’s upcoming bike share program. And, as you might expect from Mr. Banga’s presence and the program’s name, “Citi Bike,” the two sponsors will be Mastercard and Citibank.

The bikes themselves will be branded with Citibank’s logo and colors, an attribute Ms. Sadik-Khan compared to other signature hallmarks of life in New York City. Read More

Will Cuomo and Christie Approve Major Toll Hike by Port Authority?

In a joint statement with Governor Christie late this Friday afternoon, Governor Cuomo said blocking the Port Authority’s ability to raise money through borrowing and risking a downgrading of their bonds would be “a potentially disastrous result” and “unacceptable.”

Bloomberg: Cuomo Will Hail Taxi Bill [Updated]

Mayor Bloomberg said he expects Governor Cuomo to sign the mayor’s taxi plan that would allow livery cabs to make street hails, something only permitted now by yellow taxis, who primarily service Manhattan.

“I believe the governor will look at this and sign it,” Bloomberg said, on his weekly radio show this morning. “I’ve had conversations with him. I’m not worried about that.” Read More
