Turner Back On Tax Pledge List

Back when he was running against Anthony Weiner, Republican Bob Turner signed a pledge put forward by Republican activist Grover Norquist that he would never consent to raising taxes under any circumstances.

When he was running against David Weprin for Weiner’s seat earlier this year, Turner distanced himself from the pledge, telling WNYC’s Brian Lehrer “I would hate to part with Grover’s money, but it’s probably, I’m pretty close to that. That in the grand scheme, I think the Republicans are happily saying ‘Well, we’re not increasing taxes, we’re just closing loopholes. On First Day, Turner Hitches Ride With Joe Crowley

Bob Turner called into Curtis Sliwa’s radio show this morning, and when the host made reference to David Weprin as Crowley’s “Sock Puppet,” the newly-elected Congressman quickly cut him off.

“I got to tell you yesterday was a wonderful bi-partisan day,” he said. “I was introduced by Charlie Rangel in the House. At the end of the day I left the House, my wife and I, it was raining like crazy and who drives by and gives me a lift? Joe Crowley.”

Sliwa then asked Turner if he was worried he would wind up facedown in the Potomac River.
