Governor Cuomo Endorses Charlie, Nydia and Hakeem

It’s late in the game with Election Day next Tuesday, but Governor Andrew Cuomo has finally signaled which Democrats he prefers in key primaries around the city. In two races where incumbents are facing serious challenges, Mr. Cuomo has favored the incumbent, while in the open seat competition to replace Rep. Ed Towns, he went with Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries over Councilman Charles Barron.

“I think he is best suited not just for the district for this state,” Mr. Cuomo told Capital Tonight to explain his endorsement of Congressman Charlie Rangel, first reported by the New York Post. “His seniority is a major asset for this state.” Read More

Andrew Cuomo met the press in New York City today for an announcement about a new initiative regarding the Department of Financial Services’ efforts to reclaim lost life insurance funds, and he was met with a number of queries that have been roiling the city’s media-sphere.

And Mr. Cuomo did a good job of being non-committal.

Cuomo Cautions Against Future Albany Gridlock

Andrew Cuomo made clear this morning that Albany must not become a Washington of the north as lawmakers prepare to close a $3 billion state budget gap.

“I have talked to all sorts of peopple and getting all the best ideas we can,” the governor told radio host Susan Arbetter. “What is the best, most creative state program to generate jobs and we are working through that right now. Step two will be, I will get with the legislative leaders and find out what their thinking is,tell them what my thinking is. What is crucially important here is that we get something done at the end of the day. I don’t want Albany to be gridlocked like the Washington process which has been very destructive for the country and the state.” Read More
