City Columnists Bash Bloomberg Over Goldsmith

When Mayor Michael Bloomberg brought in Stephen Goldsmith at the start of his third term, it looked inspired. He had sterling qualifications for a second-in-command, having served as a mayor of major city (Indianapolis) and an academic (he taught at Harvard Kennedy School of Government) on the topic of government efficiency.

But he is quickly looking like the worst hire in of the Bloomberg administration. Not only did he clash with the city’s unions, but he botched the handling of the December blizzard, and now, even out of City Hall, he continues to haunt the administration. Read More

Bloomberg Makes No Apologies; Stringer Calls for Hearings

Any reporters who wanted to ask Mayor Mike Bloomberg about the domestic violence arrest of former deputy mayor Stephen Goldsmith were given their chance this morning, so long as they could make it to East New York for the 8:30 a.m. service at the Christian Cultural Center.

There, according to The Times, Mayor Bloomberg offered no apologies for telling the public that Mr. Goldsmith was “leaving to pursue private-sector opportunities in infrastructure finance” when he in fact resigned due to his arrest. Read More

De Blasio to Bloomberg: You Lie!

Bill de Blasio has sent a letter to Mayor Michael Bloomberg announcing that he intends to introduce legislation that would require city officials who were arrested outside of New York City to immediately report the arrest to the New York Police Department and the Department of Investigations. Under current law, when they are arrested in the city, their arrest is reported to the Department of Investigations.

“Stephen Goldsmith’s arrest in Washington, DC, reveals an obvious hole in this policy,” writes the public advocate.

And he accuses Mr. Bloomberg of being less than truthful about the whole incident. Read More
