New Poll Shows Cuomo’s Approval Rating Taking a Slight Hit

A new Siena Research Institute poll of voters in New York State shows that, while still high, Governor Andrew Cuomo’s favorability ratings are at their lowest since he took office in 2011. The poll also showed President Barack Obama up 20 points over Mitt Romney in the Empire State, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand way ahead of her three potential opponents, displeasure with Occupy Wall Street and the Tea Party, strong support for raising the minimum wage and high favorability ratings for the Legislature.  Read More

Kelly Mayoral Run Would Be A Loser: Poll

A new poll out today by Quinnipiac Polling Institute throws some cold water on those who want Ray Kelly to run for mayor.

Mr. Kelly, currently the city’s police commissioner, would lose to all three top Democrats, the poll found.

He trails Council Speaker Christine Quinn by 15 points, former City Comptroller Bill Thompson by 12 points, and Public Advocate Bill de Blasio by 12.

Mr. Kelly still has high approval ratings, however, with 66 percent of New Yorker approving of his tenure as the city’s top cop. Read More

Long Says Turner and Maragos Are No-Impact Men

After a Quinnipiac Poll out today showed Manhattan lawyer and conservative activist Wendy Long trailing Queens Congressman Bob Turner in the race for the U.S, Ms. Long released a statement slamming the current holder of the seat, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, and that her better known opponents have failed to have an impact on the race.

“Two things from today’s Quinnipiac poll are abundantly clear; Senator Gillibrand is vulnerable and my two current office holding opponents in the Republican primary have not made much of an impact on the voters of New York State,” Ms Long said in a statement. “Conventional GOP candidates have thrice tried and thrice failed to beat Kirsten Gillibrand. Having never run for office, I am not surprised that New Yorkers are only just getting familiar with me.” Read More

Bob Turner Leads In Early Poll

Bob Turner has staked an early lead in the race for the GOP nomination for the US Senate.

According to a new Q-Poll, the Queens Congressman is favored by 19 percent of Republicans. Wendy Long, a Manhattan attorney, nets 11 percent of the vote and Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos, who has been running for the seat for the past two years, gets 7 percent of the vote. Still, a majority of Republicans remain undecided, and all three trail Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand by over 30 points.  Read More

Cuomo Soars In New Poll

Andrew Cuomo appears to have left the orbit where most pols grunge for popularity, with a new poll showing that two-thirds of New Yorkers of both political parties approve of the way he is handling the governor’s job.

According to a new Quinnipiac Poll out today, 68 percent of voters approve of the job Mr. Cuomo is doing, including 67 percent of both Republicans and Democrats.

If there is bad news in these new numbers, it is that his approval among black voters is a still respectable 58 percent and that three quarters of New Yorkers decry the administration’s “lack of transparency.”

“Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and New York voters say Gov. Andrew Cuomo has done a beautiful job so far,” said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.  “But if voters liked the result, they weren’t happy with the process, the so-called ‘Big Ugly’ deal where Gov. Cuomo and legislative leaders worked out an agreement on pensions, legislative redistricting, casino gambling, DNA and whatever else they needed to resolve. Was the time honored – or dishonored – Albany practice of three-men-in-a-room the only practical way to get a deal?  Most voters don’t think so.  How about the lack of transparency – a big problem, three-fourth of voters think.” Read More

Romney Has Big Lead In NY Primary Poll

A new poll out by Quinnipiac University has some good news for Mitt Romney.

The former Massachusetts governor is up 12 points over his nearest rival, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, 32-20. The GOP primary is April 24, and although the race was assumed to be over by then, local Republicans have been preparing for a race that could still be close when it arrives here.

Mr. Romney has been struggling of late otherwise: he is currently trailing in Michigan, a state where he has deep ties and another poll out today gave Mr. Santorum the lead in Ohio.

Ron Paul grabs 14 percent of the vote in the poll, while Newt Gingrich gets 10 percent. Read More

New Poll Shows New Yorkers Support Governor Cuomo And Dislike Newt Gingrich

A new Siena College poll shows 77 percent of New Yorkers have a “favorable” impression of Governor Andrew Cuomo and most voters support key elements of his 2012 agenda. The poll also showed strong support for President Barack Obama and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. Siena also polled voters on the Republican presidential candidates. Though all of the potential GOP nominees scored far lower numbers than President Obama in the poll, New Yorkers clearly have an especially strong distaste for Newt Gingrich. Read More

New Poll Gives Dems Hope In Bid To Retake the House

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee sent around a new poll out today from The National Journal which gives their side some hope heading into the fall elections.

The survey gives Democrats an 11-point lead (48-37) over Republicans when voters are asked if they would rather see them or the GOP take control of the House.  And the poll contains particularly good news for Democrats as they look at playing field that has been gerrymandered against them in recent months as Republicans, who swept into state legislatures across the country, have carved up districts to their liking. Poll Finds Governor Cuomo's Approval Rating Remains High Despite Mixed Reaction to Tax Plan

Governor Andrew Cuomo may have managed to sell his tax code overhaul to Albany lawmakers, but voters aren’t so sure about the plan. However, the lukewarm reaction to the tax plan hasn’t affected the governor’s approval rating. According to a new Quinnipiac poll, 68% of New Yorkers approve of the job the governor is doing, but only 38% of voters gave a thumb’s up to the state’s new tax rates. Read More
