Michelle Obama: My Husband Is ‘Downright Fine’

Michelle Obama is in Florida tonight for the final presidential debate and, this afternoon, she appeared at a campaign event Broward College where she had high praise for President Barack Obama’s appearance. The first lady commented on her husband’s looks when she was interrupted by someone in the audience as she started her speech.

“I’m pretty fired up and ready to go myself because today, like I’ve been doing for a couple of years now on this campaign trail, I get to do one of my favorite things, and that is to talk about the man that I have loved and admired since I first met him 23 years ago,” Ms. Obama began.

Gary Bauer’s Anti-Same Sex Marriage Super PAC Campaign Against Obama is Just Getting Started

CHARLOTTE, NC — Evangelist leader Gary Bauer told Politicker his pro-Romney super PAC, Campaign for American Values, won’t just be running one ad attacking President Barack Obama for supporting same sex marriage. Mr. Bauer says the “New Morning” ad is only running in North Carolina during the Democratic National Convention, but that commercial just the beginning of a larger campaign aimed at using the President’s position on gay marriage to drive votes to Mitt Romney in several crucial swing states.

Pro-Romney Super PAC Launches Anti-Gay Marriage Ad to Snag Southern Swing State Votes

GASTONIA, NC — A super PAC with ties to evangelist leader Gary Bauer is trying frighten would-be Obama supporters in at least one Southern swing state by raising the specter of the President’s support for gay marriage. The “Campaign for American Values” has launched a pro-Mitt Romney television campaign with an ad warning viewers that ”Obama trying to force gay marriage on this country.”

In the commercial, which is entitled “New Morning,” a couple wakes up to coffee and the threat of legalized same sex marriage as they peruse the morning paper.

“Obama is trying to force gay marriage on this country. That’s not the change I voted for. Marriage is between a man and a woman. That’s not the change I voted for,” one of them says,

“That’s not the change I voted for either,” the other agrees.

The ad closes with a narrator advising the couple to ward off this potential onslaught of married gay couples by voting “for someone with values” as the words “VOTE ROMNEY/RYAN” appear on the screen.  Read More

Ann Romney Says She and Mitt Haven’t Had a ‘Storybook Marriage’

TAMPA, FL — In her speech at the Republican National Convention tonight Ann Romney will try to refute the notion she and her husband enjoy a “storybook marriage.”

“I read somewhere that Mitt and I have a ‘storybook marriage.’ Well, in the storybooks I read, there were never long, long, rainy winter afternoons in a house with five boys screaming at once. And those storybooks never seemed to have chapters called MS or Breast Cancer,” Mr. Romney will say, according to an advance excerpt of her speech distributed by the Romney campaign. “A storybook marriage? National Organization For Marriage Says Polls On Gay Marriage Show Obama Will Have ‘A Big Problem’ In Swing States

Frank Schubert, political director of the National Organization for Marriage, says the Obama campaign’s newly created LGBT task force is dead wrong to dismiss polls indicating the president’s support for gay marriage could hurt his chances in November. Earlier today, the leadership of Obama Pride said they weren’t concerned about a poll showing voters in Florida, a key swing state, are less likely to support for President Obama because of his recent endorsement of same sex marriage. Mr. Schubert said NOM, one of the leading opponents of gay marriage, believes the Sunshine State poll is just the tip of the iceberg.

“That’s wishful thinking on their part,” he told us. “You saw the numbers themselves, the Quinnipiac poll showed about a quarter of people are going to vote against him for this thing. That’s a big problem and I

Mitt Romney Praises Anti-Gay Activists In Commencement Speech

In a commencement speech at Liberty University  this morning Mitt Romney praised anti-gay pastor Jerry Falwell and the founder of Chick-fil-A, a fast food chain that has donated millions to anti-gay groups. Falwell, who passed away in 2007, was the founder of Liberty University and an outspoken opponent of homosexuality.

“In his 73 years of life, Dr. Falwell left a big mark,” Mr. Romney said today. “The calling Jerry answered was not an easy one.  Today we remember him as a courageous and big-hearted minister of the Gospel who never feared an argument, and never hated an adversary.  Jerry deserves the tribute he would have treasured most, as a cheerful, confident champion for Christ.” Read More

Mitt Romney Responds To President Obama’s Gay Marriage Announcement

Mitt Romney responded to President Barack Obama’s statement in support of gay marriage at an appearance in Oklahoma this afternoon by reiterating his “preference” that marriage is “a relationship between a man and a woman.”

“I know other people have differing views, this is a very tender and sensitive topic as are many social issues,” Mr. Romney said. “But I have the same view that I’ve had since, well, since running for office.” Read More

Mayor Bloomberg Praises Obama For Supporting Same Sex Marriage

As President Barack Obama appeared on ABC expressing his support for legalizing same sex marriage, Mayor Michael Bloomberg issued a statement praising the announcement as a “major turning point in the history of American civil rights.” Mr. Bloomberg also said that he expects gay marriage to be legalized now that it has the president’s full support.

“This is a major turning point in the history of American civil rights. No American president has ever supported a major expansion of civil rights that has not ultimately been adopted by the American people–and I have no doubt that this will be no exception,” Mr. Bloomberg said. “The march of freedom that has sustained our country since the Revolution of 1776 continues, and no matter what setbacks may occur in a given state, freedom will triumph over fear and equality will prevail over exclusion.” Read More
