Although Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries is a candidate for a majority African-American congressional district, he is spending plenty of time and campaign resources reaching out to the district’s diverse constituencies as well, with Election Day looming only a week away. This includes the Jewish vote. For example, Mr. Jeffries could be found at the Flatbush Park Jewish Center last night and on post-Shabbos Jewish radio last weekend, listeners were treated to a steady stream of ads from former Mayor Ed Koch.

Ed Koch Endorses Rory Lancman

Former Mayor Ed Koch endorsed Assemblyman Rory Lancman for Congress today.

While normally endorsements from elected officials are overstated, Mr. Koch does have some reason to believe his endorsement won’t be ignored in this race.

First, the district’s demographics contain many older Jewish voters who may fondly remember his term in office. Second, Mr. Koch successfully shifted the narrative in now-Congressman Bob Turner’s favor last year by crossing party lines and going to bat for the candidate.
