Bloomberg Declines to Opine on Vito Lopez’s Woes

With every Democratic heavyweight in New York City and State was pressuring Assemblyman Vito Lopez to resign over the recent days, one not-so-Democratic voice abstained. At a press conference earlier today, which happened right before Mr. Lopez announced his intentions to not remain chair of the Kings County Democratic Party, Mayor Michael Bloomberg very deliberately did not weigh in on the issue.

“No, it’s up to the Albany Legislature to investigate,” he said when asked if he felt Mr. Lopez should exit stage right, stressing that he didn’t know the details of the allegations and his desire to focus on New York City. Read More

Vito Lopez Expected to Step Down in Next 24-48 Hours: Sources

Rumors are abuzz in Brooklyn Democratic circles about whether and when Assemblyman Vito Lopez will leave his chairmanship of the Kings County Democratic Party in light of Friday’s sexual harassment scandal.

And, Frank Seddio, a district leader, attorney and former assemblyman from southeastern Brooklyn, has been making calls seeking to shore up support in the likely event that Mr. Lopez steps down in the next day or so, according to sources familiar with the situation. Mr. Seddio, the head of the influential Thomas Jefferson Club, is one of the leading contenders to replace Mr. Lopez. Read More

Dilan Endorsed By Small Army of Elected Officials [Update]

Councilman Erik Dilan, hoping to unseat Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez, has officially marshaled out the troops.

At a press conference this morning, Mr. Dilan announced the endorsements  of Senators John Sampson, Martin Dilan and Eric Adams; Assembly Members Vito Lopez, Rafael Espinal, Joe Lentol, Marcos Crespo, Nelson Castro, Micah Kellner, Naomi Rivera, Karim Camara, and Alec Brook-Krasny; and City Council Members Sara Gonzalez and  Stephen Levin, among others. Bay Ridge Democrats Not Interested In Opposing Vito Lopez Like That

Last Friday, City & State broke the news that a number of Democratic Clubs were uniting under a common banner, “Brooklyn Reform Coalition” to try and replace Assemblyman Vito Lopez as the head of the Kings County Democratic Party.

However, one of the groups mentioned in the coalition’s press release, the Bay Ridge Democrats, said  they’re not part of the intra-Democratic Party feud and apparently there was a miscommunication involved.

“Bay Ridge Democrats were unaware of this coalition and I was surprised that we were mentioned as part of the story,” the club’s president, Justin Brannan, told The Politicker in a statement. ”My club has only one focus and that is to elect forward-thinking Democrats who truly represent our community.” Read More
