Jerry Nadler Says Feds Didn’t Give ‘A Satisfactory Response’ To His Call For A Probe Into NYPD’s Handling Of Occupy Wall Street

Congressman Jerrold Nadler was one of the politicians who attended yesterday’s protest march against the NYPD’s stop and frisk policy. He told The Politickerhe believes stop and frisk is “terribly violative of civil liberties” and, like other elected officials, he hopes the Department of Justice will investigate the policy.

However, Mr. Nadler is not optimistic about the possibility of a federal investigation because he said the DOJ didn’t respond to his call for them to investigate the NYPD’s conduct towards protesters and journalists during the raid on the Occupy Wall Street encampment in Zuccotti Park last November.

“I must say, the Justice Department has not been terribly responsive when some of us have asked for investigations for various things,” Mr. Nadler said.

Mr. Nadler went on to say one of the requests he was referring to was his push for a probe into the NYPD’s handling of the Occupy Wall Street eviction.

“We never got a satisfactory response,” he said of his call for an Occupy investigation. “I think we got a response, it was not satisfactory.” Read More

Advocates Announce Investigation Into NYPD's Handling of Traffic Deaths

The pedestrian and bicycle safety advocacy group Transportation Alternatives held a rally today to announce the launch of an investigation into the New York City Police Department’s traffic crash investigation practices.

“We are here on behalf of the hundreds killed and thousands injured by traffic violence every year to demand that Ray Kelly institute a zero tolerance policy for this carnage,” said Paul Steely White, executive director of the group. “It’s the NYPD’s job to keep dangerous driving in check by holding reckless drivers accountable, but they are simply not taking that job seriously. Their cavalier attitude to the epidemic of lawless driving is absolutely unacceptable.” Read More

King: 'No Reason to Think' Murdoch Knew About Hacking

Last week, Congressman Peter King called for an investigation into possible News Corp. hacking in New York City. But King isn’t assuming his friend Rupert Murdoch knew anything about it.

“I have no reason to think Rupert Murdoch knew about it, or that anyone from the New York Post, Fox News, knew about it, so I’m not going to get into that,” King said at a breakfast event hosted by the Observer yesterday. “I think this is corruption that could be in any organization. I just thought this had to be tracked down and investigated.” Read More

Peter King Calls for News Corp. Probe

Long Island Congressman Peter King is out with a letter to FBI director Robert Mueller calling on him to open an investigation into Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation, after word broke today that the shuttered tabloid News of the World hacked into the phones of 9/11 victims.

In an interview, King said that he was moved to act due to the casualties his district suffered in the attacks and the coming 10th anniversary.

“It’s pretty basic,” he said. “I had over 150 people in my district killed on September 11. There have been reports of hacking into the phones of victims and victims’ families. That would be terrible in any situation, but with the 10th anniversary coming up, I’m asking the FBI to begin an investigation.” Read More
