Liu: 'We See a Lot of Talk' But Not Reports From Mayor's Office

Mayor Blomberg’s shot at John Liu — unloaded during a meeting with the Daily News editorial board meeting Thursday Tuesday– got a swift response from the City Comptroller in a similar meeting with the Queens Chronicle yesterday.

“I know the mayor doesn’t think I know what the hell I’m talking about,” Liu laughed. “But I used to be a pension actuary. I did that for 14 years.”

“It’s been validated by independent experts,” Liu said. “We don’t see any reports from the mayor’s office. We see a lot of talk and one liners, but where are the reports backing up those statements?”

The Voice Behind an Angry, Anonymous Robocall

A bit more about the anonymous robocall attacking a consultant working on the Jack Davis campaign:

“The only reason I got involved is because I like Jack Davis,” said Steve Kramer, a robo-call specialist based in New York, who is taking credit for the calls. He told me he did it out of disdain for Jim Spencer, one of Davis’s campaign consultants.

“I saw him operate in a certain way with the Jack Davis campaign, and spoke with enough of his former clients to get a real profile of this guy,” said Kramer. “I’m so glad he’s old and that he’ll die or be out of the business soon, because he’s a real scumbag.” Read More

In Criticizing Living Wage Report, Liu Says ‘It May Curtail Number of New Minimum Wage Jobs’

A new report by the city Economic Development Corporation says requiring a “living wage” for jobs that get public subsidies would hurt the city’s economy.

City Comptroller John Liu was quick to issue a statement denouncing the report — saying it “shows just how distorted the agency’s operations have become.”

But the comptroller then goes on to say the legislation “It may curtail the number of new minimum
wage jobs, with the hope that these new jobs would then pay a decent wage.” Read More
