Romney Campaign: ‘The Only Thing President Obama’s Ever Managed Is His Own Narrative’

After a brief respite for the holiday weekend, the battle over Bain Capital waged on in the presidential race. Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul took the first shot on CNN this morning by saying Mitt Romney’s work at the private equity firm led to more new jobs than President Barack Obama’s first term in the White House.

“Governor Romney has 25 years of experience as a businessman and entrepreneur, creating jobs. The only thing President Obama’s ever managed is his own narrative,” Ms. Saul told CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien. “Governor Romney has that experienced, he’s learned from his successes and failures and he created more jobs at Bain Capital, or helped create more jobs at Bain Capital, than President Obama has in the entire nation as president.” Read More

David Axelrod: Romney ‘Can’t Walk Away’ From Bain

Obama campaign senior strategist David Axelrod defended the campaign’s continued attacks on Mitt Romney’s work with Bain Capital in an appearance on MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports this afternoon. Mr. Axelrod said Bain is a legitimate campaign issue because Mr. Romney regularly touts his business career and because some of the episodes at the company are “disturbing.”

“Governor Romney offers his business experience as his principal and really his chief credential for running for office, he never talks about his years as Massachusetts governor and I think for good reason because they weren’t stellar years. This is his argument: ‘I was a businessman. I can lead the economy.’ So it behooves us to ask exactly ‘what did you do?’” Mr. Axelrod said. “Some of these cases are disturbing and deserve to be looked at. … He can’t walk away from this.” Read More

Mitt Romney Says Obama’s ‘A Nice Guy, But He’s Never Had a Job in the Private Sector’

In an interview with a local Virginia television station today, Mitt Romney explained why he thinks he’s better-suited to solve the country’s economic problems than President Barack Obama. Mr. Romney said the main difference between them is that, unlike the president, he’s “actually worked in the private sector.”

“The President’s a nice guy, but he’s never had a job in the private sector. He’s never created a job. I think it helps to have had a job to create a job,” Mr. Romney said. Read More

National Federation for the Blind Spokesman Slams Coulter For ‘Tasteless’ Comment

Chris Danielsen, a spokesman for the National Federation for the Blind, was not amused by Ann Coulter’s crack making fun of Chinese activist Chen Guangcheng’s blindness.  Ms. Coulter mocked Mr. Chen with a Tweet this afternoon.

“Couldn’t we just tell that blind Chinese dissident that he’s in America now?” she wrote.

Mr. Danielsen told The Politicker comments like Ms. Coulter’s have a damaging effect on the blind community. Read More

Newt Gingrich

Newt Gingrich Takes a Shot at Mayor Bloomberg

In his appearance at the New York State Republican Party dinner last night, Newt Gingrich took a jab at Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Mr. Gingrich told the audience he’s staying in the presidential race “to articulate big themes and big issues.” One of those “big themes” is his belief politicians aren’t being tough enough on terrorism due to political correctness and, as an example, he cited Mayor Bloomberg’s response to the attempted Times Square car bombing in 2010.

“You had a Pakistani come to the U.S., get his citizenship, go back home, take a course in how to build a bomb, come back to the U.S.–luckily, he wasn’t very good at it–builds a car bomb, it doesn’t go off, it smokes,” Mr. Gingrich said. “After all of our investment in national security, all of our investment in intelligence, how do we discover that there’s a car bomb in Times Square? A street vendor walks up to a policeman and says, ‘That car is smoking.’ That was our early warning system. And the mayor promptly goes on tv and says on CBS, ‘We shouldn’t rush to judgement, it could have been somebody who’s opposed to Obamacare.” Read More

Greg Ball Says Cuomo’s Health Exchange Is ‘Simply Not Prudent’

Governor Andrew Cuomo overrode the State Senate Republican majority’s opposition to his Health Exchange with an executive order today, but at least one state senator is still fighting the plan — Greg Ball. Mr. Ball issued a statement blasting the exchange, which is part of President Barack Obama’s healthcare overhaul that’s being debated in the Supreme Court as a “large and expensive government program that may never get off of the ground.”

“Any rush towards enacting Obamacare is more political than reality,” Mr. Ball said. Read More

Romney Campaign: ‘It’s On’

After Mitt Romney’s victories in the Wisconsin, Maryland and District of Columbia presidential primaries last night, he has more than half the delegates he needs to lock up the Republican nomination. According to Mr. Romney’s press secretary, Andrea Saul, President Barack Obama has taken notice of Mitt’s momentum. In an email to supporters sent after his three wins last night, Ms. Saul said the president is turning to negative ads because it’s clear “Americans across the nation are rallying around Mitt’s positive vision and plan for our country.”

“Mitt is well on his way to the nomination. And given the sudden increase in excuses and blame from President Obama, it’s apparent President Obama’s team is aware of that as well,” Ms. Saul said. Read More

Richard Becker Says Nan Hayworth Has ‘Plenty Of Chutzpah’

Democratic Congressional candidate Richard Becker, who is running against Republican Nan Hayworth for her seat in the 19th district, issued a statement today slamming Ms. Hayworth for claiming to have a moderate voting record on Capitol Tonight yesterday while supporting the Medicare overhaul plan proposed by the GOP’s top budget writer, Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan.

“Claiming to be a moderate on the same day that the profoundly radical Ryan Plan was re-released takes plenty of Chutzpah,” Mr. Becker said. Read More

Obama Campaign Says American Women ‘Cannot Trust Mitt Romney’

President Barack Obama’s deputy campaign manager, Stephanie Cutter, released a statement in response to Mitt Romney’s statement today he’d “get rid of” Planned Parenthood as part of his efforts to reduce the debt. Ms. Cutter said Mr. Romney’s pro-life positions prove “American women cannot trust Mitt Romney to stand up for them.”

“Mitt Romney’s comments today that he would ‘get rid of’ Planned Parenthood show how low he is willing to go to pander to the most extreme elements of the Republican base,” Ms. Cutter said. “Planned Parenthood is a vital health care provider for millions of American women, giving them affordable access to life-saving services like mammograms and cervical cancer screenings. Even more offensive is that he would justify on fiscal grounds the elimination of Planned Parenthood, which represents 0.01% of the federal budget, even as he proposes a $5 trillion tax plan that would give massive tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires.” Read More

John Kerry Slams GOP For ‘Ideological Extremism’ And ‘Traveling Reality Gong Show’ Primary

Massachusetts Senator John Kerry appeared at the New York Law School this afternoon as part of the Sidney Shainwald Public Interest Lecture Series and he delivered a speech “about where we find ourselves at this moment in our country.” Mr. Kerry began by apologizing for Congress’ dismal approval rating.

“I come to you with huge humility. I understand that we are at eight percent in the United States Congress and it is therefore miraculous that you would invite a sitting, elected member of the United States Senate to come talk to you,” Mr. Kerry said. “I don’t come here to be partisan, but I’m going to tell you facts.”

Despite his promise to be non-partisan, the Democratic senator proceeded to slam Republicans for “ideological extremism” in Congress, the failure of the debt reduction supercommittee and a presidential primary he described as a “traveling reality gong show television show.” Read More
