Queens City Council Candidate Again Accused of ‘Plantation-Type Politics’

An opponent of attorney Jacques Leandre, one of eight candidates running in a Queens City Council special election, again accused him of engaging in “plantation-type politics” on last night’s Road to City Hall when asked about Mr. Leandre’s legal challenge to his petitions to get on the ballot. Michael Duncan made his claim when another candidate in the race, Donovan Richards, asked him how he felt about Mr. Leandre’s challenges in a forum on the show.

“I think Jacques is a very smart brother,” Mr. Duncan answered. “I think Jacques took the time to investigate my petition. I think Jacques realized I had over 1,600 good signatures. So Jacques should not use that same plantation-type politics that have been used on us for centuries.” Read More

Chris Christie Says Lack of Sandy Relief Shows ‘Why the American People Hate Congress’

Governor Chris Christie is angry.

In addition to a statement blasted out earlier today, New Jersey’s outspoken governor held a press conference this afternoon where he said Speaker John Boehner’s sudden decision to halt a vote on the Hurricane Sandy relief package exemplifies “why the American people hate Congress.”

“Thirty-one days for Andrew victims. Seventeen days for victims of Gustav and Ike. Ten days for victims of Katrina,” Mr. Christie said, ticking off how long it took for Congress to pass relief after other natural disasters. “For the victims of Sandy in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, there’s been sixty-six days and the wait continues. There’s only one group to blame for the continued suffering of these innocent victims: the House Majority and their speaker, John Boehner….Last night, politics was placed before our oath to serve our citizens. For me, it was disappointing and disgusting to watch.” Read More

Cuomo Warns State Senate Coalition That He’s the People’s ‘Instrumentality’

Governor Andrew Cuomo threw down the gauntlet on the new State Senate leadership coalition between the Republicans and the breakaway Independent Democratic Conference with a stern warning for them to support all of his agenda items that he has declared his “litmus test” for the group on Fred Dicker’s radio show this morning. Mr. Cuomo drew his line in the sand when the host asked about indications the new coalition might be hesitant to back all of the agenda items on the governor’s list. Mr. Cuomo, who has taken some heat from progressives for not doing more to oppose the coalition and back Democratic control of the Senate chamber, made it clear his tolerance for the group will cease if they don’t pass his test.

“If that’s true, then we’re going to have a problem Fred and we’re going to have a problem sooner rather than later,” said the governor. Read More

Rick Santorum Finds Obama in ‘Contempt for the Rule of Law’

Former senator and presidential candidate Rick Santorum held a press conference call today in which he described President Barack Obama’s policies on welfare as part of a “pattern” of the president’s “contempt for the Constitution” and “contempt for the rule of law.” He also said the president’s decision to offer states waivers lessening the requirements for people to apply for welfare funds as proof “the president doesn’t believe in the American people.”

“The president’s acted with contempt for the law … absolute contempt for the law and for the Constitution,” Mr. Santorum said. “For the president to act in this fashion, to act with contempt for the people’s laws and the people’s Constitution as he has done here, and by the way, he has done on repeated occasions over the past several months in office on immigration, on his healthcare law and some other things.” Read More

Barney Frank Blasts ‘Crazy Tea Party Republicans,’ With ‘Cockamamie Ideas’ And ‘Crazy Fat Cat Friends’

Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank may be retiring at the end of this term, but he still has plenty of fight left in him. Today, Mr. Frank sent out a fiery fundraising email slamming Tea Partiers on behalf of his colleague from Western New York, Louise Slaughter.

“These crazy tea party Republicans make logic disappear faster than Houdini. The worst part is that their crazy fat cat friends are literally throwing money at them to help them win so they can enact their cockamamie ideas,” Mr. Frank wrote. Read More

Bobby Jindal Calls Obama ‘Incompetent’

Louisiana governor and potential Mitt Romney running mate Bobby Jindal is campaigning for Mr. Romney in Iowa today and he also held a press conference call with Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell where they slammed President Barack Obama’s “failed economic record” and “misplaced priorities.” Mr. Jindal began his remarks by slamming the president as “incompetent” and inexperienced.

“President Obama is the most liberal and incompetent president since Jimmy Carter was in the White House,” said Mr. Jindal. “The reality is, he’s a great speaker. Four years ago, he was here in Iowa promising hope and change, but the reality is, he’s never run anything including a lemonade stand, a business or a state before he was elected President of the United States.” Read More

Obama Campaign Accuses Romney of ‘Big Bain Lie’ on Outsourcing

This morning’s edition of the Boston Globe contained a report that “government documents filed by Mitt Romney and Bain Capital say Romney remained chief executive and chairman of the firm three years beyond the date he said he ceded control” bolstering the Obama campaign’s argument that Mr. Romney was responsible for outsourcing that occurred at Bain. The Globe article came just as the Romney campaign released a new ad describing the outsourcing claims as “dishonest.” Obama campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith responded with a statement saying, “Romney’s False Ad Is Based On His Big Bain Lie.”

“Mitt Romney’s ad is based on the false premise that he left Bain Capital in February 1999, an assertion that today’s Boston Globe and official documents filed with the SEC and the State of Massachusetts demonstrate is just not true,” Ms. Smith said. “The fact is that Romney, despite his big Bain lie, served as president and CEO of his corporate buyout firm until three years later and is responsible for the American jobs that were shipped overseas during that period.”

Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul countered the Globe article with a statement of her own labeling the Globe story “inaccurate.” Read More

Mitt Romney: ‘If We Want to Get Rid of Obamacare, We’re Going to Have to Replace President Obama’

Mitt Romney responded to the Supreme Court ruling upholding President Barack Obama’s healthcare reform law with an address in Washington D.C. in which he explained why he thinks “Obamacare” is “bad law.”

“Let’s make clear that we understand what the Court did and did not do. What the court did today was say that Obamacare does not violate the Constitution. What they did not do was say that Obamacare is good law or that it’s good policy,” Mr. Romney said. “Obamacare was bad policy yesterday, it’s bad policy today. Obamacare was bad law yesterday, it’s bad law today.”

He also said the Court’s decision showed the president needs to be replaced in the next election.

“Our mission is clear,” said Mr. Romney. “If we want to get rid of Obamacare, we’re going to have to replace President Obama. My mission is to make sure we do exactly that.” Read More

Obama Says Romney’s Campaign Messsage Would Fit ‘On A Tweet’

At a fundraiser in Maryland today, President Barack Obama criticized the core message of Mitt Romney’s campaign as simplistic.

“Because folks are still hurting right now, the other side feels that its enough for them to just sit back and say, ‘Things aren’t as good as they should be and it’s Obama’s fault,’” the president said. “You can pretty much put their campaign on, on a tweet and have some characters to spare.” Read More
