Cuomo’s Day in DC: ‘The Governor Hit the Trifecta’

Governor Andrew Cuomo spent the day in Washington yesterday lobbying for the approximately $40 billion in federal aid he is asking for to help the state recover from Hurricane Sandy. “The governor hit the trifecta; the White House, the Majority Leader and the speaker,”  an administration official said. Read More

Michele Bachmann to Barney Frank: ‘Welcome to Minnesota’

Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank is heading to Minnesota tomorrow to appear at a fundraiser for his fellow Democrat, Jim Graves, who is running against congresswoman and former Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann. Ms. Bachmann’s campaign marked the occasion by releasing a video yesterday entitled “Barney Frank is Coming to Town.”

“Roll out the red carpet, shine up your shoes, but hide your wallets,” a narrator says in the clip as a jazzy soundtrack plays. “Jim Graves needs a little more campaign cash, so he’s doing what any good Wall Street banker, auto executive and corporate welfare fan would do: Ask Barney Frank to bring in the bucks.” Read More

Allen West Is Not Coming to New York to Go Clubbing

Conservative Florida Congressman Allen West is having a fundraiser in New York City October 1, however, in spite of what the invitation says, he won’t be holding the event in a Meatpacking District nightclub that is at least a decade past its heyday, Lotus. The official invite for the luncheon says it will be held at “The Lotus Club,” which has been closed for years. Mr. West’s event is actually being held at The Lotos Club, a private “literary club” on the Upper East Side. Read More

Cuomo Launches Direct Attack on GOP and Heaps Praise on Obama in North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, NC — Though Governor Andrew Cuomo is often named as a potential presidential contender in 2016, he has exerted tremendous effort to have a low-key presence at the Democratic National Convention and generally prefers cooperating with Republicans rather than criticizing them. However, in an address before the New York delegation’s breakfast to the DNC this morning, Mr. Cuomo launched an uncharacteristically direct attack on the GOP and gave a stirring defense of President Barack Obama.

Mr. Cuomo began his speech thanking the other politicians in attendance and the convention’s organizers before quickly pivoting to the presidential election.

“One more thank you,” he said. “To a man who has stood by the State of New York for about four years. He was there for the State of New York when it was teetering on the brink, like so many other states when this nation was teetering on the brink. A new man came to office, a new leader, a new president, and he’s been a phenomenal partner to the State of New York helping us through this transformation and these difficult times and let’s thank President Barack Obama for what he’s done for our state!” Read More

Disgruntled Employees of Bain-Owned Companies Plan RNC Ambush for Romney

The progressive activist group UnitedNY is sending a group of people who have “worked for various companies owned by Bain Capital” to Tampa to serve as “ambassadors for the 99%” at the Republican National Convention. UnitedNY announced their convention plans today via a press release inviting reporters to watch the Bain workers depart from JFK on Saturday.

“The workers traveling to Tampa have worked for various companies owned by Bain Capital, a private equity firm Mitt Romney founded in 1984. They will participate in protests to draw attention to the harmful effects a “Romney-Ryan” economy would have on the vast majority of Americans,” the press release said.  Read More

Some Things The RNC Would Like You To Know About President Obama’s Albany Visit

President Barack Obama will be in Albany tomorrow. In honor of his visit, Allie Brandenburger, a regional press secretary with the Republican National Committee, sent an email to reporters who might be covering the president’s upstate trip.

“With no record to run on, President Obama is sure to blame someone else for leaving the middle class behind,” Ms. Brandenburger wrote. “But he’s been President for the last 4 years and it’s his failed record that has left working families with less in their paychecks.” Read More

Carolyn Maloney On Obama’s New York Visit And Reshma Saujani’s Fundraiser

Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney was on hand for President Barack Obama’s trip to New York City visit last week and she shared her thoughts about the presidential visit with The Politicker.

“I thought he was inspiring, he has a record to run on, the enthusiasm, I went to two events with him, was deep and strong,” Ms. Maloney said. “When he made the comparison of where we were three years ago to where we are now, I told him we should have a bumper sticker that just says Osama bin Laden dead, American auto industry hiring and exporting. It shows the tremendous reversal in a lot of ways.” Read More
