Perkins to Cy Vance: DSK Dismissal Would Be A Travesty

Harlem State Senator Bill Perkins is out this morning with an open letter to Manhattan district attorney Cy Vance urging him to not drop the rape against Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

“We cannot be or appear to be guided by unfounded information, slanderous attacks or details about an individual’s past that have nothing to do with the case at hand,” Perkins writes. “It takes enormous courage for any victim to report crimes of this nature. As the case against DSK softened, the criticism of Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance has increased. The effort to defend Vance got a boost last night when former Mayor Ed Koch and former State Comptroller Carl McCall praised him on NY1.

Koch: “District Attorneys should be praised for justice, not for convictions. You don’t want someone who says ‘every case that I have we’re going to get a conviction otherwise there’s a miscarriage of justice.’ Under the law, the District Attorney is required to give any evidence to the defense that can exculpate the defendant. I think he should be praised, not condemned.” Read More

“I’m calling on Mr. Strauss-Kahn to whip out that checkbook of his and pay us for the cost of policing, traffic Read More
