Adam Clayton Powell IV Explains Why He Predicted Prison For Mayor Bloomberg

Former Assemblyman Adam Clayton Powell IV told The Politicker he doesn’t really think Mayor Bloomberg will go to jail, but he’s still outraged about the maneuvers the mayor made to secure a third term. Mr. Powell also discussed his future political plans.

Last week, Mr. Powell said Mayor Bloomberg would be sent to prison in an El Diario roundup of year-end political predictions. “Bloomberg won’t finish his third term. He’ll be charged and sent to jail, and Bill Thompson will win a special election for mayor,” Mr. Powell said in remarks translated from the original Spanish.

First Neighborhood Opportunity Network Office Opens In Brownsville

Mayor Michael Bloomberg was in Brownsville this morning to preside over the opening of the first office of the Neighborhood Opportunity Network (“NeON” for short), a program that aims to improve the way New York handles the probation process. Joined by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and Department of Probation Commissioner Vincent Schiraldi, Mayor Bloomberg touted the facility as a crucial step in helping people on probation stay out of trouble. “We believe that this new approach can make a real difference in one of society’s most intractable problems; the high rate in which probationers return to prison,” Mayor Bloomberg said.  Read More

Councilman David Greenfield Explains Why Parking Violation Stickers Are ‘Cruel And Unnecessary’

Councilman David Greenfield, who wants to ban the difficult-to-remove violation stickers the Sanitation Department places on illegally parked cars, told the Observer what he thinks about Mayor Bloomberg comparing opposition to the stickers to murderers who don’t understand why they end up in jail. “I’m certain the Mayor was joking,” Councilman Greenfield said.
