Former Governor David Paterson’s time hosting his two-hour daily radio show has officially come to an abrupt end.

Governor Cuomo Hires NBC Alum to Handle Communications

Governor Andrew Cuomo’s new communications director is Allison Gollust, a former chief spokesperson for NBC Universal. Ms. Gollust replaces Mr. Cuomo’s longtime communications director, Rich Bamberger, is departing the administration for an as-yet-unspecified job in the private sector.

“The opportunity to join the Governor and his team to build on the tremendous success they have already achieved in transforming the state is one that I truly could not pass up,” Ms. Gollust said in a press release announcing the move this morning. “Communication in this day and age moves at a lightning pace and serves a critical role in informing the public.” Read More

De Blasio Raids Weinerland in Advance of 2013 Election

For the second time in recent days, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio has hired one of former Congressman Anthony Weiner’s staffers. According to Queens sources and confirmed by Mr. de Blasio’s office, the public advocate, and likely candidate for mayor in 2013, hired Lydon Sleeper, as a senior policy adviser. Mr. Sleeper, who was an assistant and district chief of staff for Mr. Weiner, joins Deputy Chief of Staff Avi Fink, another veteran from the ex-congressman’s office. Read More

City & State Lays Off Chris Bragg [Update]

City & State, the online-print hybrid publication owned by Manhattan Media, has laid off reporter Chris Bragg, who headed up their blog The Notebook. Mr. Bragg confirmed that he was laid off today and said it was for cost reasons, but otherwise declined to comment.

Mr. Bragg is a fairly well-known reporter in the city’s political circles and routinely breaks investigative stories on the deep innards of the city’s politics. Notably, he broke the news of Senator Marty Golden’s now-infamous “Feminine Presence” class, which promptly gained national attention due to what many felt was condescending language directed at potential attendees. Red Horse Staffs Up

Red Horse Strategies, the local political consultancy most known for their ability to run a sophisticated field operation, have beefed up their office in advance of the fall elections.

Among their hires include Dan Morris, best known as a relentless press officer for the RWDSU and their living wage campaigns, and Peter Kim, most recently of the Working Families Party. The group also announced that they were hiring Jenna Bimbi, a former Teach for America fellow and Tim Biba, a former aide to Syracuse mayor Stephanie Miner. Read More
