Rick Santorum Takes Missouri

Rick Santorum won the Missouri primary this evening in an upset victory made possible by Newt Gingrich’s failure to get himself on the ballot in the Show Me State. NBC News declared Mr. Santorum the winner just under two hours after the polls closed at 8 p.m. New York time.

After Mr. Gingrich’s win in South Carolina, the race for the Republican nomination seemed to be shaping up as a two man contest between Mr. Gingrich and the frontrunner, Mitt Romney. With his Missouri win, the Santorum campaign hopes voters will reconsider Mr. Santorum as a viable, conservative alternative to Mr. Romney, however he won’t earn any delegates for his victory because of a dispute between the Republican National Committee and the Show Me State. Mitt Romney Wins Florida

Mitt Romney won tonight’s Republican presidential primary in Florida, a victory that puts him in prime position to lock down his party’s nomination. Fox News, NPR, CNN called the Sunshine State for Mr. Romney almost immediately after the last polls closed at 8 p.m. New York time.

After his victory in South Carolina, Mr. Romney’s main opponent, Newt Gingrich, upset Mr. Romney’s once ironclad lead in the Florida polls, but Mr. Romney got back on top after drubbing Mr. Gingrich in the most recent debate and dramatically outspending him on the airwaves. Read More

Newt Gingrich: ‘I Have Never, Ever Gone and Done Any Lobbying’

Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich went on the attack early in tonight’s NBC News National Journal Republican presidential debate in Tampa leading to a heated exchange where they argued over whether Mr. Gingrich is a former lobbyist.

“There’s a point in this process where it gets unnecessarily personal and nasty and that’s sad. The fact is, I’ve had a very long career of trying to represent the people of Georgia and, as speaker, the people of the United States. I think it’s pretty clear to say that I have never ever gone and done any lobbying,” Mr. Gingrich said. Read More

Republican Candidates Weigh In On SOPA

During tonight’s Republican presidential debate in South Carolina, all the candidates weighed in on the controversial Stop Online Piracy Act.

Newt Gingrich began his answer with a joke.

“Well, you’re asking a conservative about the economic interests of Hollywood and I’m weighing, I’m weighing it. I’m not rushing in, I’m trying to think of all the many fond left-wing people who we’re so eager to protect,” Mr. Gingrich said.

After his swipe at Hollywood, which is one of the main industries supporting SOPA, Mr. Gingrich expressed his opposition to the bill. Read More

Gingrich: If GOP Wins, Washington Will See Wisconsin-Style Protests

NASHUA, NH Newt Gingrich made an appearance at the Hillborough County Republican Gala in New Hampshire on the eve of the primary election here and said that winning the White House will be just the beginning of the fight for the GOP.

“We are a country where the incumbent president is going to have a billion dollars to attack and smear the Republicans. We are a country where every institution of the left is going to fight every day, so even if we win the presidency, that is only the beginning. But the struggle is going to go on. If you look at what is happening with Scott Walker in Madison, you have a pretty good idea of what this is going to be like.” Read More

Herman Cain Defends His Right To Pause

Herman Cain has had his fair share of troubles these past couple of weeks. The latest of which has nothing to do with sexual harassment, but rather his much publicized interview Monday morning with the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, during which Mr. Cain paused for an unnervingly long period of time when asked if he agreed with the Obama administration’s handling of the situation in Libya. His gaffe haunted Mr. Cain in Iowa, where reporters hounded him for an explanation of his bumbling Libya analysis.  Read More
