DNC Apologizes to Ann Romney For Horsing Around

DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse told ABC News yesterday that he was sorry if new ads hitting Mitt Romney on his refusal to release his tax returns offended Ann Romney. The ads in question featured Ms. Romney’s dancing dressage horse, Rafalca, which is headed to the London Olympics. In the ads, the DNC uses footage of the prancing horse to make the claim Mr. Romney is “dancing around the issues” of his taxes and personal finances.

“Our use of the Romneys’ dressage horse was not meant to offend Mrs. Romney in any way, and we regret it if it did,” Mr. Woodhouse said. “We were simply making a point about Governor Romney’s failure to give straight answers on a variety of issues in this race. We have no plans to invoke the horse any further to avoid misinterpretation.” Read More

Republican Congressional Candidate Says Progressives Want To Outlaw Kids’ Lemonade Stands

Mark Oxner, a Republican congressional candidate in Florida’s 9th District, released a campaign commercial online today in which he envisions a dark future where his Democratic rival, Alan Grayson “and his progressive cronies” control the House of Representatives. In Mr. Oxner’s ad, entitled “The Future of Lemonade,” a young girl sits with her grandmother on New Year’s Eve in 2013 going through a photo album displaying pictures of things that have been annihilated by liberals.

“Children used to make lemonade to sell on the street to have fun and make a little bit of money,” the grandmother explains. “Until Alan Grayson and his progressive cronies made it impossible for anyone to start a new business, even little children just having fun on a Sunday afternoon.” Read More

Obama Campaign Questions Whether Romney Paid Any Taxes Prior to 2010

The Obama campaign continued their attack on Mitt Romney’s offshore assets and refusal to release more of his tax returns with a new ad this morning entitled “Makes You Wonder.” In the ad, a narrator points to the Vanity Fair investigation of Mr. Romney’s finances and suggests his use of “tax havens,” “offshore accounts” and “carried interest” and his low overall tax rate indicate he may not have “paid any taxes at all” outside of the one year for which he did release returns, 2010.

“Mitt Romney has used every trick in the book. Romney admits that over the last two years he’s paid less than 15% in taxes on $43 million in income. Makes you wonder if some years he paid any taxes at all,” the narrator says as text flashes across the screen showing the years 2005 through 2009 followed by question marks. Romney Campaign Uses President Obama’s Words Against Him

In the wake of relentless attacks from the Obama campaign on Mitt Romney’s tenure at Bain Capital and his overseas assets, the Romney campaign released a new television adentitled “What Happened?” featuring footage of President Obama as a candidate four years ago criticizing negative campaigning.

“Four years ago, Candidate Obama spoke out against using ‘stale tactics to scare voters.’ Today, his plan to ‘destroy Romney’ includes dishonest attacks that he hopes will distract voters from his broken promises,” the Romney campaign said in a statement on the ad. Read More

Obama and Romney Battle Over Bain [Video]

This morning, the Obama campaign rolled out a new ad blasting Mitt Romney’s record as co-founder of Bain Capital. Mr. Romney’s campaign fired back by challenging the veracity of the ad and the president’s “failed record” on the economy.

“We welcome the Obama campaign’s attempt to pivot back to jobs and a discussion of their failed record.  Mitt Romney helped create more jobs in his private sector experience and more jobs as Governor of Massachusetts than President Obama has for the entire nation,” Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul said in a statement. “President Obama has many questions to answer as to why his administration used the stimulus to reward wealthy campaign donors with taxpayer money for bad ideas like Solyndra, but 23 million Americans are still struggling to find jobs.  If the Obama administration was less concerned about pleasing their wealthy donors and more concerned about creating jobs, America would be much better off.” Read More

Bloomberg Blames Negative Ads For Poor Showing In Education Policy Poll

Mayor Michael Bloomberg blamed a recent poll showing a majority of New Yorkers disapprove of his handling of the schools on the United Federation for Teachers’ ad campaign criticizing his record on education.

“Somebody goes and runs a bunch of ads every day on television, you can create exactly that poll,” Mayor Bloomberg said.

The mayor went on to suggest he could turn around the numbers by buying his own ads.

“I guess I could go spend some money and reverse the poll, the press would love it,” he said.

Last time the UFT took out ads against Mayor Bloomberg in March that’s exactly what he did. At that time, the mayor opened a campaign committee to fund a $5.6 million campaign defending his record on schools complete with polling, mailings and TV ads. Mayor Bloomberg subsequently shut his committee in October, on the exact same day The Politicker wrote a story about its activities. Read More
