City Agrees To Disclose Names of 9/11 First Responders To Hospital

Last week, members of the police union called on Mayor Mike Bloomberg to release the medical records of 9/11 first responders  to a panel that is studying possible links between cancer andcontaminants unleashed by the destruction of the trade center.

The panel at Mt. Sinai Medical Center was trying to determine if the the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act should be expanded to cover cancer treatment. Pamela Geller, the blogger and conservative activist who led the charge against Park 51, the Islamic cultural center in Lower Manhattan, announced this morning that she will host an alternative ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

“It is crucial to stand for freedom on this tenth anniversary of the heinous 9/11 jihad attacks,” said Geller in a statement. “We must show the jihadists we are unbowed in the defense of freedom.”

Bronx Councilman Takes Up The Call for Prayer at 9/11 Ceremony

Mayor Bl0omberg has said that there will be no clergy or formal prayers at the tenth anniversary ceremonies for the 9/11 attacks next month, and Fernando Cabrera, a City Councilman from the Bronx, has taken up the campaign to change his mind.

“I am urging the Mayor to reconsider the decision to exclude prayer from the 10th Anniversary 9/11 ceremony,” Cabrera said in a statement.  “During 9/11, the faith community served as pillars for many New Yorker’s coping with the tragedy. As a pastor during the tumultuous aftermath, I know firsthand that it was a time where people were searching for meaning and things bigger than themselves. People’s faith helped fill this void and continue to serve as spiritual and emotional support.” Read More

Firefighter Links Bloomberg Third Term, 9/11 Remembrance

This isn’t sitting well with the cops and firefighters who rushed to the scene or worked down there for months afterward, and, in an interview on NPR’s “Morning Edition,” retired police officer Jim Ryder recalled the arm-twisting that needed to occur for the mayor to overthrow the city’s term limit law and wondered why he couldn’t do the same here.
