Mitt Romney Is Waiting for His Bill Clinton ‘Bounce’

Mitt Romney spoke at the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting in Midtown this morning. He began his remarks by referencing the address Bill Clinton gave at the Democratic National Convention earlier this month. Mr. Clinton’s speech was widely touted as one of the highlights of the DNC and was seen as one of the main factors behind a subsequent surge in the polls for President Barack Obama. Mr. Romney, who was introduced by Mr. Clinton at the CGI meeting, said he hoped the “kind words” from the ex-president would give him the same kind of boost President Obama got after the DNC.

“Thank you, Mr. President.  I appreciate the kind words and your invitation here today,” Mr. Romney said to Mr. Clinton. “If there’s one thing we’ve learned this election season, it’s that a few words from Bill Clinton can do any man a lot of good. After that introduction, I guess all I have to do is wait a day or two for the bounce.”  Read More

Clinton Says Romney Campaign’s Welfare Reform Attacks Are ‘Not True’

After the Romney campaign launched a series of attacks yesterday accusing President Barack Obama of trying to “gut” President Bill Clinton’s 1996 welfare reform, President Clinton defended his successor with a late night press release.

Former President Bill Clinton is participating in an event with the Obama campaign where donors are entered in a chance to meet with him and President Barack Obama in New York. Mr. Clinton sent an email to Obama supporters this morning encouraging them to pay up for a chance to spend the night with the pair of presidents and explaining why he thinks Mitt Romney must be defeated. In Vintage ’98 Footage, Mayor Bloomberg Praises Press and Predicts Media Meltdown

In the last two months, Mayor Bloomberg’s relationship with the media has become increasingly rocky as he drew criticism from news organizations and press advocacy groups for arresting reporters and restricting press access at the Occupy Wall Street protests. But before he was taking heat for his treatment of the press, Mayor Bloomberg was a media mogul who vigorously defended the rights of journalists.

In a nearly fourteen year old clip unearthed by The Politicker from CSpan’s voluminous archives, Mayor Bloomberg, who was at the time CEO the news company he founded, Bloomberg L.P., praised journalists as a global force for justice against evil politicians. He also gave a remarkably prescient prediction of the coming layoffs and technological changes facing the media. “We journalists are the ones that did bring down the evil empire, we are the ones charged with watching the watchers, we are the ones that opened China, we are the ones that have stopped genocide and starvation in many places in the world,” Mayor Bloomberg said.
