Andrew Cuomo Explains His Presidential-Sounding Book

It’s become standard practice for presidential candidates to release personal memoirs outlining their governmental philosophy, and although Governor Andrew Cuomo insists he’s focused on New York, he’s soon to follow down that well-tread electoral path. The book, like Hillary Clinton’s–another prominent potential White House contender–is slated to emerge next year.

“This is a private book. It’s not a government book,” he told reporters during an unrelated press conference in Albany. It doesn’t yet have a name, but as Mr. Cuomo described it, the memoir will be sure to address how he approaches government and tout his accomplishments. Read More

Governor Cuomo Won’t Say Whether He’d Back Hillary For President

Governor Andrew Cuomo appeared on Fred Dicker’s talk radio show today and he discussed the increasing speculation Hillary Clinton may run for president in 2016. Mr. Dicker specifically asked Mr. Cuomo, who is also touted as a potential candidate four years from now, about mounting reports the Democratic Party would line up behind Ms. Clinton essentially meaning the nomination is hers for the taking. Mr. Cuomo, as he generally does when asked about 2016, dismissed the discussion.

“There’s a long way away. We just elected a president….There’s no doubt that she’s incredibly popular, she’s got incredible support….She’s going to have to make her decision.” Read More

King Cuomo: Governor Exalted Before State of the State

Governor Andrew Cuomo never tires of describing his first year in office as a transformative period for New York State government that saw Albany change from a hotbed of graft and gridlock into a model of bipartisan cooperation and good government. At his annual State of the State address last week, each element was perfectly calibrated to symbolically support that narrative.

Rather than giving the speech in the Assembly Chamber, Governor Cuomo moved the proceedings to the New York State Convention Center in the underground concourse below the Capitol. In an appearance on former Governor David Paterson’s radio show Monday, he confirmed the venue change was intended to send a message.

“I wanted to make a statement. The State of the State, as you know, is normally done in the Assembly Chamber,” Governor Cuomo said. “So, the Senate would come in and they would pack into that Assembly Chamber. And it was in the Capitol, it was basically to the Legislature with very few guests … because there were no seats—uncomfortable and you’re talking to a room full of politicians. I wanted to metaphorically, last year, bring the government outside of the Capitol and open the forum to the people.” Read More

'I Changed 180 Degrees.' Dicker Mocks Gillibrand 2016 Talk

Senator Gillibrand’s vote against the debt ceiling bill — which had the support of Senator Schumer and the President — is stirring speculation about the junior senator’s future.

Maggie Haberman of Politico said on Talk1300 this morning that Gillibrand could be building a national profile, and possibly positioning herself for a chance at the White House in 2016.

The show’s host, Fred Dicker, scoffed. Read More
