Sec. of state's office launches online voter outreach program

The office of Secretary of State Sam Reed has launched a new effort to reach out to voters and encourage participation in the electoral process. The campaign, called "I Will Vote", establishes a presence on MySpace, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter that provide information about the election and provides a forum for sharing opinions and photos with other voters in the state.

"It is one of my biggest priorities to engage younger voters, and it has also been a major goal to stay up-to-date with the technology that is dominating the way information is shared," said Reed. "I'm excited to say I Will Vote does both. We are looking forward to seeing visual proof of just how many people in Washington State are dedicated to having a say in the voting process this year."

Social networking with PolitickerME

PolitickerME is trying to build up a presence on social networking sites like Facebook on Twitter.

On Facebook, we’re up to 215 friends. Help bump us up to 300! I’m planning a continuing feature of some sort integrating Facebook. Link to PolitickerME’s profile.

It’s important to note that I belong to a lot of groups on Facebook. This is to keep tabs on them, and does not symbolize our support or opposition to any groups or politicians.

I’ve also just created a Twitter account. My goal is to post updates on which events I’m attending and stories I’m doing. Check us out.

Finally, have you checked out our podcast? It’s not much right now, just downloadable versions of some of our recent videos, but we hope to enhance it in the future adding interviews and other exclusive content. Search for “politicker” in iTunes, or add the following URL manually: http://feeds.feedburner.com/PolitickermeVideoFeed

I will be experimenting with various ways to implement these tools with PolitickerME. If you have any suggestions let me know.

Lastly, have you seen our YouTube channel?
