Guinta backs Stephen over his former boss, Jeb Bradley

Congressional candidate John Stephen got the nod from the mayor of New Hampshire’s biggest city and one of his opponent's former top advisors Wednesday.

Manchester Mayor Frank Guinta -- who worked on former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley's congressional staff from 2003 to 2005 -- released a statement Wednesday saying he is backing Stephen in the 1st Congressional District, calling the former state Health and Human Services director the “true fiscal conservative in this race.”

Stephen is running against Bradley for the chance to take on Democratic incumbent Carol Shea-Porter. On Wednesday Guinta said that, while he considers Bradley a friend, he disagreed with the implications coming out of Bradley’s campaign that Stephen is not a real conservative.

Three lessons a Kansas primary might teach about NH-1

WASHINGTON -- A freshman Democratic Congresswoman seeking a tough re-election. She has a bit of an independent streak and early on refused to participate in Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee programs. The congressman she barely defeated wants his job back. But before that former congressman gets his chance at a re-match he has to get through a Republican Primary.

Sounds like New Hampshire 1st Congressional District? Yes, but it was also the storyline in Kansas's 2nd district.

Two weeks ago Kansas voters shocked many analysts when they chose the more conservative candidate, State Treasurer Lynn Jenkins, over former four-term Rep. Jim Ryun. Jenkins will now take on Democrat Nancy Boyda.

With just three weeks before Republican voters decide whether former Rep. Jeb Bradley or former state Health and Human Services Commissioner John Stephen will challenge Democrat Carol Shea-Porter, we examine three lessons of that Kansas primary that might have an impact here in New Hampshire.
