Gregg ‘presumes’ he will run in 2010

MANCHESTER--U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg (R-Rye) said that he "presumes" he will run for re-election in 2010, but left the door open that he might decide to retire.

"I'm presuming I'll run again, but I haven't made any decisions," Gregg told PolitickerNH.com. "I'll sit down with Kathy next year and decide."

The movie, I.O.U.S.A., discusses the nation's growing debt and entitlement spending. Gregg is featured for introducing the legislation that would create a bipartisan task force to deal with the government spending.

Swett has plenty of cash for politics

Keep an eye on Katrina Swett: no one in New Hampshire politics has a greater warchest heading into the 2010 elections.  At the start of the summer, Swett had $937,363 in a campaign account she started to explore a bid for U.S. Senate against John Sununu.  In addition, the campaign of her late father, U.S. Rep. Tom Lantos of California, has $1,280,754 in the bank. While Swett cannot simply transfer that money to her own campaign account, she can use it for purposes that might help her secure political support in the future.

Gregg’s PAC not as generous as Sununu’s

Over the last three month, U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg's (R-Rye) White Mountain PAC has given $14,000 to Republicans running for the U.S. Senate but did not give any money to New Hampshire Republican candidates.

Yesterday, PolitickerNH.com reported that over this quarter U.S. Sen. John Sununu's Daniel Webster PAC distributed $30,500 to national Republicans and over $7,000 to Granite State politicians.

Politics, earmarks don’t mix paper concludes

This year New Hampshire's congressional delegation requested money for 107 earmarks however The Nashua Telegraph finds that campaign donations played almost no role in the earmarking process.

"Earmarking" is when a member of the U.S. House or Senate specifies certain money of the federal budget go to a specific project. The process has come under scrutiny after several House members were convicted on corruption charges relating to earmarks.

Donahue named NHIOP political director

How rare would a Shaheen victory be?

Jeanne Shaheen is looking to do something that has only happened one time since 1865.  Only once since then has a Democratic candidate for US Senate in NH defeated a sitting Republican who was elected to the office.  The last time that occurred was in 1932 when Fred Brown was part of the Roosevelt landslide and defeated Republican George Moses.  Brown only served on term and was defeated.  Since then only two Democrats have held a NH U.S. Senate seat, and neither of those defeated a sitting Republican who was elected to the seat.
