Manchester state senators rally crowd

MANCHESTER--The three Democratic candidates vying for the state senate in Manchester all used a familiar Barack Obama chant to close their speeches before 1,000 supporters.

Incumbent state Sens. Lou D'Allesandro (D-Manchester) and Betsi DeVries (D-Manchester) joined Bob Backus (D-Manchester) in addressing a crowd assembled to hear President Bill Clinton speak at a "Unite for Change" rally.

Sullivan: Clinton visit will 'bring this election home' for Democratic ticket

On the eve of Hillary Clinton's trip to New Hampshire, her former state chairwoman said Clinton will help convince undecided voters to vote for the Democratic ticket.

The U.S. Senator from New York is scheduled to hold rallies in Dover, Manchester and Pelham. This will be her first visit to the state since the unity rally with Barack Obama in June.

Penn laid-out N.H. strategy in memo

Weeks before the New Hampshire primary, U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton's senior strategist Mark Penn wrote a campaign memo that outlined a path to victory for the former first lady.

The memo, published by The Atlantic, proposed a series of steps the campaign should take depending on how well Clinton did in the Iowa caucuses.

Sullivan files complaint against NHAC

Former New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairwoman Kathy Sullivan has filed a complaint against the New Hampshire Advantage Coalition. In a letter to Attorney General Kelly Ayotte, Sullivan says that the group has broken seven election and tax laws, but Mike Biundo, chairman of NHAC, says the allegations are not true.

Sullivan alleges that the group has not filed as a political action committee, has not put disclosures on campaign materials and is violating their nonprofit status by promoting the candidacy of group members.

Dems continue to hit Sununu-Stevens connection

Former New Hampshire Gov. Jeanne Shaheen's (D-Madbury) campaign says U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley) should answer questions about a 2004 fishing trip Sununu took with now-indicted U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska). In 2004 Sununu attended the Kenai River Classic with Stevens and executives from VECO Corporation. Stevens was indicted last week for making illegal statements about campaign donations he received from the Alaska-based oil company.

NH Dems target AJS

The New Hampshire Democratic Party has filed a complaint with the Federal Elections Commission against the group Americans for Job Security.

The organization recently began airing radio ads titled "Taxes Hurt," which takes aim at former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen's economic record. Shaheen, a Democrat, is running for U.S. Senate against current U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley).

The National Journal examines the new ad Citizens United is running in New Hampshire. The ad sparked Alex Reese, press secretary for the NHDP's Coordinate Campaign, to issue a statement that said "Sununu's position is that he thinks outside groups shouldn't be involved in this campaign even when they have thousands of New Hampshire members, but if a D.C.-based, pro-Bush group is supporting him, he's got no complaints."

NH Dems honor Freedman

The New Hampshire Democratic Party will be hosting an event to honor Anita Freedman.

Freedman is retiring as the New Hampshire DNC committeewoman. Former state party chairwoman Kathy Sullivan is replacing Freedman and is chairing the event.

Democrats talk unity; Dean mum on primary

MANCHESTER -- As the presidential primary battle continues between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton nationwide, local Democrats stressed unity during their annual state convention Saturday.

They talked as if talking about unity would actually heal the wounds playing out at the grassroots. Call it the audacity of hope.

At one point former party chair Kathy Sullivan, a Cinton supporter, addressed the 800 pound donkey in the room by making all delegates stand, raise their right hands and pledge they'll support the Democratic presidential nominee, whoever that might be. Jim Demers, an Obama state co-chair, repeated the same call for unity.
