Swett has plenty of cash for politics

Keep an eye on Katrina Swett: no one in New Hampshire politics has a greater warchest heading into the 2010 elections.  At the start of the summer, Swett had $937,363 in a campaign account she started to explore a bid for U.S. Senate against John Sununu.  In addition, the campaign of her late father, U.S. Rep. Tom Lantos of California, has $1,280,754 in the bank. While Swett cannot simply transfer that money to her own campaign account, she can use it for purposes that might help her secure political support in the future.

McGovern, Frank pony up for the DCCC in May

Representatives Jim McGovern (D-Worcester) and Barney Frank put in their fair party dues last month -- and then some.

McGovern was second in May donations to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) with $230,000. Frank was sixth, contributing $100,000.

While individuals can only give $28,500, transfers from a candidate's committee into the DCCC coffers are unlimited. Those in leadership posts put in around $800,000 in dues. Most members are expected to donate around $125,000, while those in swing districts are exempt.

McGovern was recently tapped to replace the late Rep. Tom Lantos (D-California) as co-chair of the Human Rights Caucus, while Frank holds a leadership position as chairman of the House Financial Services Committee.
