Edwards says Dems had a ‘home run opening day’

DENVER - U.S. Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Fort Washington) called the first day of the Democratic National Convention a “home run opening day.”

They “hit all the right notes,” she told PolitickerMD.com during a breakfast for the Maryland delegation at the Renaissance Denver hotel.

Edwards said its going to be important for the Democrats “to point to the actual record of John McCain.”

MDGOP gets energized for November, optimistic about a presidential victory in MD

ANNAPOLIS - The Maryland Republican Party began energizing party members on Thursday for the presidential election by participating in the First National McCain Nation Event. With 10 locations throughout the state, the MDGOP sought to organize Republicans, recruit volunteers and get the message out.

Speaking at the MDGOP headquarters in Annapolis, former first lady Kendell Ehrlich said "leadership and character" were among the two most important qualities a presidential candidate could have. "And I think John McCain is someone we should be excited about on both these fronts."

To drill or not, that’s the question

Colorado Democrats US Rep Mark Udall and US Rep Ed Perlmutter said on Monday that "America needs to wean itself off its addiction to fossil fuels," according to 7News Denver's web site. Their remarks take on added importance because John McCain today talked about his energy plan, which includes, of course, an extra big helping of fossil fuels.

A new Ward campaign email claims that "Steve Ward earned 43%; four other guys split 57% at GOP Assembly." As 9News might say: this claim needs some context. Wally would say like this: this claim's a little weird.

Public opinion guru sees promise in either Rendell or Casey for VP

While Gov. Ed Rendell stumped frenetically for Clinton in Pennsylvania, helping to deliver the almost 10-point margin of victory she enjoyed, Sen. Bob Casey campaigned for Obama.

The head of a public opinion research firm, though, says that while both would have weaknesses as a running mate, both would likely deliver the critical swing state of Pennsylvania.
