Kucinich reacts to Biden pick in relation to Northeast Ohio and Catholic Democrats

U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich reacted in a conversation with PolitickerOH.com about the choice by presumptive presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) to have Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) as his vice presidential running mate.

Speaking about Biden, Kucinich said, "I've known him since '72, he's very solid. He's got great experience.  I think he's a good pick."

Kucinich was asked about the positive response of Catholic Democrats toward the Biden choice that PolitickerOH.com had reported earlier, and how he saw the Biden pick affecting that demographic in Northeast Ohio.

"He's got working class roots," Kucinich said. "I think that a lot of Catholics do. The working class helped build the church. I think he works. I think he'll do well in Ohio. And we'll do everything we can to make sure of that."

Kucinich addresses Ohio delegation, stresses grassroots efforts in Ohio

U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich opened his remarks to the Ohio delegation Wednesday morning with a splash of humor.

Referring to his rousing speech at the Pepsi Center Tuesday afternoon, Kucinich said, "I'm just a soft spoken guy. I didn't get a chance to say what I really wanted to."

Kucinich went on to reiterate the point to the Ohio delegation that the "whole election comes down to the state of Ohio."

Kucinich also spoke about the importance of grassroots campaigning and canvassing in the 2008 election.

Ohio delegation reacts to Dennis Kucinich speech, convention hall gives Kucinich standing ovation

DENVER - U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Cleveland) delivered his speech to the Democratic National Convention this afternoon, during which he said Democrats are giving America a wake-up call.

Kucinich lamented the "trillions of dollars for an unnecessary war paid with borrowed money" and said that if there were "an Olympics for misleading, mismanaging and misappropriating, this administration would take the gold."

"World records for violations of national and international laws," Kucinich continued. "They want another four-year term to continue to alienate our allies, spend our children's inheritance and hollow out our economy."

Kucinich made repeated calls to, "Wake up, America," and said the country couldn't afford another four years of a Republican administration.

Trakas talks about campaign for OH-10 in interview

Jim TrakasDuring what he called a heightened political year, where people are focused on political activity abound, former state Rep. Jim Trakas (R-Independence) said his campaign against U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Cleveland) is going extremely well.

Independent candidate Paul Visokaj (I) is also vying for the seat.

In an interview with PolitickerOH.com, Trakas said he was a big believer in door-to-door, personal solicitation, as well as personal phone calls, and that the Trakas campaign has knocked on almost 40,000 doors and made about 30,000 telephone calls to independent and Democratic voters in the district.

Trakas said his goal was to knock on 100,000 doors total. He said that the race was winnable for him for several reasons.

"Congressman Kucinich has been a well-known political figure in greater Cleveland since 1967, when he first started running for office," he said. "And the scrutiny that was put on his presidential campaign by the local media probably wouldn't be construed as very positive, frankly, as well as the primary campaign by his primary opponents."

He said the feeling may have sunk into voter's minds that Kucinich wasn't working on their behalf anymore.

"And I'm talking about people who are not a bunch of Republicans - those folks haven't liked him for a long time - these are independent-minded people, as well as a surprising amount of Democrats."

Trakas pointed out that he was running against an incumbent Congressman during a struggling economy, which is a top concern of voters.

"He's had 12 years to show what he can do," he said. "And I think that people feel that, while he's a very well-intentioned person, he has not been able to do a whole lot to benefit the greater Cleveland economy."

Kucinich may get shot to make impeachment case before recess

U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Cleveland) made his second attempt to impeach President Bush last week in as many months. He read 35 articles of impeachment against Bush in June, but last week read only one to a silent Congress on the House floor.

But House Judiciary Committee chair John Conyers (D-Mi.) has now said the committee will take a broad look at the Bush administration, and possibly give Kucinich the opportunity to state his case as a part of that hearing, CQ Politics reports.

Kucinich has asked for the opportunity to state his case. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has said that impeachment is "off the table." Conyers told CQ that he wants a public discussion on the issues being raised by Kucinich, but he has no plans for action on the measure.

Kucinich goes for another impeachment, gets blasted by Trakas for ‘ignoring Cleveland’

U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich is trying to impeach President Bush today for the second time in as many months. Kucinich unsuccessfully attempted to introduce 35 articles of impeachment against Bush last month. This time, Kucinich is offering only one article.

In a letter to colleagues, Kucinich said, "I will bring forth a single article of impeachment which reviews the factual misrepresentations the President made to Congress to induce a favorable vote for the authorization for war."

Kucinich said "at least a dozen key material representations made to Congress by the President in that authorization, in furtherance of Congressional action, were false at the time they were made."

Former state Rep. Jim Trakas (R-Independence) is challenging Kucinich for Ohio's 10th Congressional district seat.

Trakas issued a statement in response to Kucinich's latest impeachment efforts calling them "futile" and saying the "fool's errand reinforces who owns Congressman Kucinich." The statement says that "Hollywood's favorite son" is continuing "to ignore Cleveland."
