Allen speech: The Republican response

Both the Maine Republican Party and U.S. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Bangor) responded to U.S. Rep. Tom Allen’s (D-Portland) speech at the Democratic National Convention Wednesday.

Allen is challenging Collins for her seat this November.

The party said the Allen campaign exaggerated the significance of the speech noting that it lasted only 1 minute and 48 seconds, and that 7:07 p.m. was “well outside the ‘prime time’.”

Cummings is a co-chair of the Maryland for Obama campaign.

Oregon House Speaker and U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Merkley (D-Portland) will address the Democratic National Convention this evening between 2 and 4 p.m (PST).

Most recent polls show Merkley trailing incumbent U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Pendleton).

Murphy to take the stage at DNC with fellow vets

U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Bristol) is scheduled to address the Democratic National Convention between 7 and 8 p.m. (EST) on Wednesday night. The theme of the day is "Securing America's Future."

Murphy -- currently the only Iraq war veteran serving in Congress -- will be joined on stage by fellow Iraq war veterans.

Kerry to speak during prime time tonight

U.S. Sen. John Kerry (D-Boston) is scheduled for a prime time speaking spot at the Democratic National Convention tonight between 9 and 10 p.m. (EST).

The theme of the night is "Securing America's Future." Vice presidential nominee U.S. Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) is scheduled to address the convention between 10 and 11 p.m.
