American Future Fund ad hits Reid on energy

A new radio ad from the conservative advocacy group American Future Fund knocking U.S. Senate Majority Harry Reid's (D-Searchlight) energy positions began airing Friday around the state.

The ad -- called "What will Harry say?" -- centers around Reid's upcoming speech at the Democratic National Convention next week in Denver.

The ad says Reid's speech on energy will likely not address what it calls the energy failures of his tenure -- including recent moves by congressional Democrats to block a vote on expanded offshore drilling.

In a statement announcing the ad, AFF spokesman Tim Albrecht said Reid has been unwilling to allow a vote on " a comprehensive, common-sense solution" to the nation's energy challenges, citing his resistence to offshore drilling and expanded oil shale exploration as proof.

“I am sure Senator Reid will have a cheering section at the Democrat convention, but the American people are jeering at high gas prices,”  Albrecht said. “And thanks to Senator Reid’s obstruction and inaction in the Senate, Americans unfortunately continue to grapple with skyrocketing energy costs.”

The radio ad can be heard below.

Group airs energy ad

An outside group has begun airing a television ad examining the energy record of U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley) and former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury).

The ad from the American Future Fund is critical of Shaheen's stance on drilling, while telling Granite State residents to tell Sununu to support the Gas Price Reduction Act, an act that Sununu is co-sponsoring.

American Future Fund hits Reid again

American Future Fund, a conservative-leaning advocacy group, is targeting U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Searchlight) for the second time in less than a month.

In a one-minute radio advertisement airing statewide in Nevada, the organization hammers Reid for his leadership on the issue of gas prices.

“How’s Harry Reid using his position as Majority Leader to help lower gas prices?” an announcer asks in the ad. “Reid and Congress just took a five week vacation -- instead of working to lower gas prices. Congress found time to pass National Apple Month, but Reid continues to block votes to explore for energy in America. America has huge energy reserves, but Congress has placed up to 85 percent of them off-limits. Reid repeatedly blocks efforts to lift the moratorium on safe exploration off our coasts. Reid opposes exploring a tiny portion of Alaska -- less land than the Las Vegas airport -- and he’s against developing our massive oil shale reserves. Call Harry Reid: 702-388-5020. Tell him his vacation should end and the Senate should vote on S. 3202.”

American Future Fund opens Colorado front

American Future Fund, an independent conservative-leaning advocacy group, is extending its advertising campaign to Colorado.

On Wednesday the organization is launching a 60-second radio spot hitting U.S. Rep. and U.S. Senate candidate Mark Udall (D-Boulder) on the issue of oil exploration. The ad is set to run for two weeks statewide, according to a spokesman. The amount of the initial ad buy is $130,000.

“Gas prices are at an all-time high. But Congress -- led by Nancy Pelosi and Mark Udall -- has blocked real solutions,” an announcer says in the ad, which goes on to note the availability of oil reserves in western Colorado.

“But Mark Udall has repeatedly voted against exploration – blocking development of our vast energy resources. That’s more of the politics of delay that have driven gas to four bucks a gallon.

"In fact, Udall has voted to delay energy exploration at least thirty-four times. Coloradans need real solutions on gas prices.

Independent group targets Reid over gas prices

The American Future Fund, a conservative-leaning advocacy group, has launched a hard-hitting radio advertisement targeting U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Searchlight) on the issue of gas prices.

The ad, first reported in several news outlets last week, takes Reid to task for his opposition to offshore drilling.

“Reid says no to energy exploration in Alaska and off our coasts. And no to the safe development of our massive oil shale reserves,” an announcer says in the 60-second spot. “But Reid says yes to higher energy taxes, that consumers will wind up paying. Call Harry Reid at 202-224-3542. Tell him to allow the Senate to vote on S. 3202 - and drill for oil right here - right now.”
