Hoyer's House and Senate predictions

SEVERNA PARK -- House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Mechanicsville) predicted Sunday that Democrats could pick up over 30 House seats, but said getting 60 seats in the Senate would be difficult.

"I think that's a tough road," Hoyer told PolitickerMD.com following a stump speech for 1st Congressional District candidate Frank Kratovil (D-Stevensville). "We're certainly gonna pick up five or six."

“I think Barack Obama has to show the American public where he wants to take this country,” the 5th District Democrat told PolitickerMD.com. “The policies he wants to promote in order to make the lives of average working people in this country better.”

He continued “At the same time I think it’s going to be very inspirational and appeal to the best of America and say that -- as he says all the time -- ‘I want to have this country be not what it is but what we think it ought to be.'”

Edwards talks about Hoyer and FISA

Yesterday, U.S. Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Fort Washington) discussed her vote against the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and how she broke the news to House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Mechanicsville).

In the video, Edwards talks about the importance of having members who will stand up against their own leadership. She recounted the story of approaching Hoyer on the House floor and how she sternly told him, "Steny, I will not vote for that FISA bill."

The 4th District Democrat was in Cape Elizabeth, Maine to endorse Chellie Pingree for Maine's open 1st District House seat, PolitickerME.com reports. The incumbent, Tom Allen (D), is currently challenging U.S. Sen. Susan Collins (R).

Hoyer reports $241K in 2Q, $1.5M cash on hand

U.S. Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Mechanicsville), who currently holds Maryland’s 5th Congressional District seat, is reporting $240,970 in contributions in the second quarter and has $1,541,458.54 cash on hand.

Hoyer has raised $3,002,132.11 in total contributions to date for this election according to Federal Election Commission reports.

Hoyer, who serves as U.S. House Majority Leader, is currently serving his 14th term in Congress. His opponent, Collins Bailey, currently has $621.20 cash on hand.

Bailey raises $2K in 2Q, $600 cash on hand

Republican Collins Bailey, who is running against U.S. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Mechanicsville), is reporting $2,475 in total contribution in the second quarter and $621.20 cash on hand.

Bailey has received $4,497 total contributions to date according to filings with the Federal Election Commission.
