Dems wrap up delegate voting

RENO-After hours of process, Nevada Democrats have elected their 26 delegates to the Democratic National Convention, scheduled for Aug. 25-28 in Denver.  The delegates are broken down according to congressional district with an additional six elected at-large and three party leaders and elected officials.

From Congressional District 1, Obama delegates include Nevada Highway Patrolman Ray Pedraza, AIDS activist Gabrielle Keys and attorney Manita Rawat.  Clinton delegates include Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani, former Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce chairman Robert Gomez and IUPAT District Council 15 president Jack Mallory.

From Congressional District 2 in Washoe County, Obama delegates include Reno businesswoman Xiomara Rodriguez and Washoe County Democratic Treasurer Matt Dickson.  Clinton's delegate is state Treasurer Kate Marshall.

Dem. convention stretches into late evening

As voting continued into its fourth hour, several delegates were seen napping around the convention floor.: Politicker Photo.RENO-Although the speeches and delegate allocation were over in the early afternoon, the Nevada Democratic Convention lasted late into the evening Saturday with staffers and volunteers spending hours working to elect delegates to the national convention.

A morning that began with controversy over the finer points of convention process gave way to hours of tedium as delegates from Nevada's three congressional districts broke up into separate rooms at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno for self-nomination and voting for national delegates.

Kal Penn for Obama at Dem. Convention

RENO-Due to Reid's press conference, it was only possible to catch the conclusion of actor Kal Penn speech in favor of Obama. Luckily for Penn, he wasn't asked to immediately follow Clinton.

Reid: Republican Party lacks soul, heart and head

RENO-U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid takes reporters' questions at the Nevada Democratic Convention.  Reid predicts that the Democratic primary will be over in two weeks and that the party will be able to come together against Republicans in the fall.

Reid also discusses Mass. Sen. Ted Kennedy's health, renews his pledge to remain neutral in the Democratic primary, and predicts that the Florida and Michigan delegates will be seated in Denver.

RENO-U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid continues extolling the drawn-out Democratic primary season and refers to presumptive Republican nominee John McCain as a "flawed candidate." "He has the wrong temperament, he's wrong on the war, he's wrong on the economy and we're going to beat John McCain," said Reid.
