Bipolar not unfamiliar to politics

State Sen. Jim Marzilli's lawyer says the embattled lawmaker has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, a mix of normal mood, depression and mania (which can lead to as delusions and hallucinations).

Over the years, many political types have been treated for this affliction, most notably the late Thomas Eagleton, a U.S. Senator from Missouri and briefly the 1972 Democratic vice-presidential candidate.

In the more local parlance, former Massachusetts first lady Kitty Dukakis was treated for her depression.

Other historical figures who reputedly had bipolar disorder are Winston Churchill, Alexander Hamilton and even Theodore Roosevelt.
