Chair baby chair? Steele hasn't mentioned it says spokeswoman

Recent rumors suggest former Lt. Gov. Michael Steele (R-Prince George's County)  -- the current chair of GOPAC -- may have his sights on the Republican National Committee's chairmanship, but a spokeswoman for Steele says the rumors are coming from the mouths of others, not Steele himself.

"He hasn't talked about it," Belinda Cook, GOPAC's special assistant to the chairman, told PolitickerMD.com. Cook says Steele has been focusing on getting John McCain elected and hasn't mentioned the idea.

Pawlenty and Steele do breakfast

Over in Arlington, Virginia at the inaugural GOPAC state and local summit, former Lt. Gov (and the organization's current chairman) Michael Steele hosted Minnesota Gov. and vice presidential prospect Tim Pawlenty for breakfast. Steele, as usual, was effusive with the praise, saying Pawlenty "represents, in my view, the new face of the Republican Party, certainly the leadership of our party."

In other Marylanders, Queen Anne's County very own Andrew Langer will be on a panel there a little later.

Sources: Harris campaign manager among candidates vying to become executive director of state GOP

Chris Meekins, the campaign manager for state Sen. Andy Harris (R-Cockeysville) in his bid to become the next representative from Maryland’s 1st Congressional District, is among a list of 14 candidates vying to replace John Flynn as executive director of the Maryland Republican Party, sources tell PolitickerMD.com.

Meekins would not comment on the matter when contacted by PolitickerMD.com, saying, “My focus right now is getting Andy Harris elected to Congress.”

“If other challenges present themselves—we may look at it,” Meekins said.
