LAS VEGAS - In a conference call with reporters this morning, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid discussed the Senate housing bill and previewed a mortgage foreclosure prevention resource center this weekend at the Cashman Center in Las Vegas.

Reid said that Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd (D-Conn.) is making progress on producing a bipartisan housing bill, but that if Senate Republicans wouldn't sign on he'll take up the previously passed House bill next week.

"If I don't have something worked out with the Republicans by probably next Wednesday, I'll just move to that myself," Reid said.

LAS VEGAS - Gov. Jim Gibbons' office announced today that the governor will hold an emergency budget meeting with legislative leaders and state officials on Thursday to discuss Nevada's worsening budget crisis.

"I believe we are in the midst of the worst fiscal crisis in the state's history," Gibbons said in a statement. "It's important that all state leaders are on the same page about where we stand and together we consider our options moving forward."

LAS VEGAS-Yesterday, Ill. Sen. Barack Obama gained 26.5 superdelegates to the Democratic National Convention, two of them from Nevada.

Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez-Masto and state Democratic Party chairman Sam Lieberman endorsed Obama yesterday after polls closed in Montana at 7 p.m. PDT.

"I am endorsing Sen. Obama today because I feel it is now best for our party to unite behind him, and I believe he will make Nevada a top priority in his campaign," said Lieberman last night. "Moving forward, Barack Obama has the passion, integrity and ability to turn Nevada Blue and change the course of the country for the better."

Cortez-Masto's endorsement came just after 7 p.m. PDT, as polls closed in Montana.

With her endorsement, Obama has now secured four of Nevada's nine superdelegates to the Democratic National Convention to be held in Denver in August.

LAS VEGAS-Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez-Masto has submitted a petition to the state Supreme Court, asking for clarification of the state's term limits laws, according to the Associated Press.

The term limits law, passed in 1996, limits legislators and other officials to twelve years of service.  Controversy has arisen because some officials, like Clark County Commissioner Bruce Woodbury, believe that term limits only went into effect beginning with the next election in 1998.  Woodbury has served on the Clark County Commission since 1981.

LAS VEGAS-The Pennsylvania Primary, hailed for seven weeks as a make-or-break contest in the ongoing Democratic nomination process, appears to have changed little, either nationally or here in Nevada.

With N.Y. Sen. Hillary Clinton lagging in pledged delegates, many analysts believe the only way she can secure the Democratic nomination is to convince superdelegates that Ill. Sen. Barack Obama is unelectable. Her win in Pennsylvania, although it may have produced a net gain of 12 pledged delegates, does not appeare to have changed any Nevada superdelegates' minds, however.
