Sununu, Shaheen spar in last debate

The last debate between U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley) and former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury) might be best remembered for how uneventful it was.

Shaheen attempted to tie Sununu to President Bush, while Sununu tried to separate himself from the Republican leadership.

Tracking poll shows Dems extend lead

The UNH/WMUR tracking poll has U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) and U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester) expanding their leads over their Republican opponents.

Hodes is leading Jennifer Horn (R-Nashua) 51 percent to 21 percent with 27 percent undecided. Yesterday's poll had Hodes at 48 percent and Horn at 26 percent.

UNH: Bush at 27% approval in state

A University of New Hampshire poll puts President George W. Bush's approval rating at 27 percent among adults.

The WMUR Granite State Poll, sponsored by WMUR-TV and conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, also shows that 70 percent of adults disapprove of Bush's handling of the economy and 61 percent disapprove of his handling of foreign policy.

UNH: Bradley, Hodes ahead in races

A University of New Hampshire poll puts former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) and U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) ahead in their respective races.

In the 1st Congressional District Bradley is beating incumbent U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester) 45 percent to 42 percent with 12 percent undecided. In the 2nd Congressional District Hodes is leading Jennifer Horn (R-Nashua) 38 percent to 26 percent with 33 undecided.

Stephen airs ‘compare’ ad

Three weeks before the Republican primary, John Stephen (R-Manchester) has begun airing a television ad that seeks to draw differences between him and his primary opponent, former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro).

"Jeb Bradley: He's everything that's wrong with Congress," the announcer states.

McCain begins airing new ad

U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has begun airing an ad attacking U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's (D-Ill.) position on oil drilling.

The ad, titled "Pump," is a thirty-second-ad and is now airing on WMUR.

Political morning shows

WMUR'S Close-Up focused on Manchester potentially increasing parking fees and "air quality action days."

The Union Leader's Scott Brooks and Manchester's parking manager Brandy Sullivan discussed the impact of changing the Queen City's parking fee structure. Sullivan said she would be reaching out to businesses to explain the potential changes and over the long-term the changes would have a positive impact on the city. Brooks explained that there was almost no discussion among the Aldermen and said "I think there's going to be some grumbling at first, but there's a lot of components so it's confusing."

McCain to begin running TV ad next week

The presidential campaign of U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) will begin airing another campaign ad on WMUR, beginning next week.

The one-minute ad is scheduled to run from July 7 through July 13 and is part of a $100,000 ad buy, according to public broadcasting forms.

Obama begins airing second ad in Granite State

Presumptive Democratic presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) has begun airing a second campaign ad in New Hampshire.

The thirty-second ad, titled "Dignity," focuses on Obama's decision to take part in community organizing after graduating from Harvard Law school.
