Norquist brushes off reports of Palin’s earmark history

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Anti-tax activist Grover Norquist waved off a report today that Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin had secured a large federal grant for town of 6,700 people. Norquist said he was "much more interested" in where Alaska Gov. Palin stood on the issue "going forward," but that the ultimately responsibility for earmarks lay in the federal government. "You can't stop the states from asking," he said. "You have to stop the feds from giving."

Stivers moves and grooves with DC Republicans

WASHINGTON - If Steve Stivers isn’t the considered the hottest thing in National Republican circles these days, he’s pretty close.

“This guy is a rock star,” U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said in an interview earlier this week at Washington’s Capitol Hill Club as Stivers walked by.

Stivers, the Republican nominee in Ohio’s 15th Congressional District, wrapped up a Washington trip on Thursday. But Stivers will be back soon – next week, in fact.

New video from Dems hammers Bee over Bush visit

The Arizona Democratic Party is trying to capitalize on a planned visit by Pres. Bush on behalf of state Sen. Pres. and 8th Congressional District candidate Tim Bee (R-Tucson) with a new video on their Republican-lampooning website, crAZyspace.org.

The follow-up to their "Friends in Low Places" video, which catalogued Bee fundraisers such as anti-tax activist Grover Norquist, former Republican presidential candidate Steve Forbes and former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove (who the Bee campaign says doesn't belong in the lineup), shows Bush dancing in front of the White House, and is set to "Limbo Rock."

But John Kerry does have tan

There are number of political taboos -- too many to count, probably. One would be not to joke about Al Qaeda monitoring C-SPAN, and another would be to stay away from touching on race when criticizing folks.

Chao latest big name to campaign for Bee

U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao is the latest GOP star to lend her support to State Senate Pres. Tim Bee's congressional run. The labor secretary and wife of U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) will appear tomorrow with Bee at a breakfast fundraiser in Phoenix.

Chao joins a growing list of name brand Republicans to get behind Bee in his fight to unseat freshman Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-8). The race is drawing extensive focus by both Democrats and Republicans, and today's announcement of the Chao event was instantly met with scorn from the Arizona Democratic Party, which seeks to portray Bee as a loyal Bushite and associate him with Social Security privatization.

Stephen signs ATR pledge

Grover Norquist and John StephenMANCHESTER- Joined by Grover Norquist, former Health and Human Services Secretary John Stephen (R-Manchester) signed the Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) Taxpayer Protection Pledge.

"The tax cuts of the past decade are absolutely critical to the long-term success of our economy and our growth. To get rid of them would send a clear message that we're not committed to keeping our economy strong, whether in the short-run or the long-run" Stephen told the crowd assembled at Brady-Sullivan's offices in the Jefferson Mill.

Stephen added that the government does not have a revenue shortage.

"We consistently don't have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem," he said.
