The Daily Show dove back into the mayor’s race last night, delivering a rather brutal assessment of Republican Joe Lhota’s chances in the polls tonight.
After playing a news clip that described Mr. Lhota trailing Bill de Blasio by a huge margin in a recent poll, host Jon Stewart went on to list other equally dismal contests.
The Daily Show weighed in on Tuesday’s election results last night, and celebrated mayoral winner Bill de Blasio’s “incredibly awesome family”–at one point donning an afro wig to try to be more like Mr. de Blasio’s famous son, Dante.
“Adopt me?” asked host Jon Stewart after playing a clip of the family on victory night doing their signature dance move, “The Smackdown.”
The mayor’s race returned to late-night TV last night, with both The Daily Show and Colbert Report offering their takes on next Tuesday’s primary.
Back at the helm after an extended absence, Daily Show host Jon Stewart directly went after front-runner Bill de Blasio’s tall stature.
“How large is Bil de Blasio? Did that guy fall right off a bean stalk?” he asked, turning to assail Anthony Weiner for his controversies on the campaign trail.
The Daily Show’s fill-in host John Oliver held no prisoners tonight as he took ex-Congressman Anthony Weiner to task over his latest sexting allegations, skewering the mayoral wannabe for continuing to communicate with random women long after his resignation.
“Now, America is collectively experiencing déjà ewww,” declared Mr. Oliver, who dedicated nearly two full segments of the show to his take-down, aided by mock movie posters and racy props.
The Daily Show finally weighed in on New York City’s pair of politicians plodding their post-sex scandal electoral comebacks–and they didn’t exactly hold back.
During last night’s episode, fill-in host John Oliver mercilessly skewered former Gov. Eliot Spitzer, dubbed “Prostitute Johnson,” and former Congressman Anthony Weiner, nicknamed “Dick Pic McGee.”
Assemblyman Dov Hikind may have offered his sincere apology for dressing up as a “black basketball player” for Purim, but that doesn’t mean The Daily Show can’t have a little fun with the incident. Accordingly, that’s exactly what happened last night.
“If you live in the New York area, you may be familiar with State Assemblyman Dov Hikind,” the show’s host, Jon Stewart, began as he ticked off allegations of anti-Semitism Mr. Hikind has leveled against others. “Some of this may seem like a bit of an overreaction, but the guy is standing up for a group, whenever he feels this group has been unfairly maligned or held up for ridicule. So what’s he been up to lately?”
The Park Slope Food Co-op may have voted down the controversial ban of a handful of Israeli food products last night, but that won’t stop outside observers from making fun of the entire debate.
The Daily Show, filmed before the ultimate vote took place, made sure to wade into the discussion.
“The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has raged for decades with countless casualties on both sides,” the show’s segment began, displaying militaristic scenes from the violence. “But perhaps there’s one aspect of this war that’s most tragic of all: the Park Slope Food Co-op in Brooklyn, New York.”
