Public Advocate Bill de Blasio is a big fan of the band Vampire Weekend, apparently.

"I just can't wait for the new album, Modern Vampires in the City!" Mr. de Blasio, a candidate for mayor this year, says in a promotional video released today. "It's something that I've been waiting for. I can't wait for it to come out."

The entire exchange, set between Mr. de Blasio and actor Steve Buscemi, one of the candidate's more prominent celebrity endorsers, feels just a little forced as the two pretend to bump into each other outside of a local bowling alley. The public advocate professes his love for Vampire Weekend, even name-checking two of their songs, "A-Punk" and "Oxford Comma."

Mr. Buscemi, who is directing a video for the band, guides Mr. de Blasio over to the group, who just so happen to be standing nearby.

"If you become mayor, if these guys vote for you, do you think that they could write the official song for New York City?" Mr. Buscemi asks.

"For four votes?" Mr. de Blasio jokingly answers. "Absolutely. Unquestionably."

"Chicks With Steve Buscemeyes" debuted in April 2011 and instantly became a viral hit. The site features images of attractive female celebrities with Mr. Buscemi's eyes photoshopped over their famous faces.

Move aside Scarlett Johansson (and one-time mayoral candidate Scott Stringer), another citywide contender is hosting a celebrity-infused fundraiser for the 2013 election cycle. Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, who's all-but-certain to campaign for mayor next year, just rolled out an event with actor Steve Buscemi.

"I got to know Bill when we fought side-by-side against the city’s misguided efforts to close firehouses across New York a decade ago," Mr. Buscemi wrote in a letter to Mr. de Blasio's supporters today. "As a former FDNY firefighter, keeping those firehouses open was an issue close to my heart, and I was moved by Bill’s courage and deep personal commitment to our cause."

Mr. Buscemi was actually arrested with Mr. de Blasio while protesting City Hall's firehouse cuts a decade ago, so his support for the public advocate isn't exactly a surprise. He previously donated to Mr. de Blasio's campaign and the two live only a few blocks away from one another in Park Slope.

"I’ve come to see that Bill’s advocacy for those of us who live in the outer boroughs runs deep," Mr. Buscemi said, highlighting Mr. de Blasio's outer borough-based game plan as he competes against multiple Manhattan rivals.

Actress Scarlett Johansson is holding her third fundraiser for Manhattan borough president and likely mayoral candidate Scott Stringer. The event, which will be held on the roof of the Maritime Hotel in Chelsea, includes a two hour party preceded by an hour-and-a-half long "private reception." Tickets for the party start at $50, access to the reception is reserved for chairs who pony up $2,500.

Ms. Johansson's brother is a former staffer of Mr. Stringer's. She has already given the maximum donation of $4,950. Ms. Johansson hosted two fundraisers for Mr. Stringer last fall.

Mr. Stringer isn't the only likely City Hall contender with support from a Hollywood celebrity. Public Advocate Bill de Blasio has the backing of his longtime friend and neighbor Steve Buscemi, who gave him $1,000 last July.
