Robert Mittman, an allergist and long-shot candidate for Tuesday's Democratic primary in New York's 6th Congressional District in Queens, doesn't seem to mind using very misleading advertising that implies the retiring incumbent, Congressman Gary Ackerman, has endorsed him when he has actually backed a rival candidate.

"Bob's dedication to his profession and to his community is emblematic of the commitment and energy he has exhibited during the many years I have had the pleasure to know him," the ad declares next to a large image of Mr. Ackerman. "Bob answered the summons of a call for help and responded with the professionalism that should be the standard. For this, I pay tribute to him."

Mr. Ackerman, however, has endorsed Assemblywoman Grace Meng in this election, and the quote seems to be a proclamation to Mr. Mittman's professional career rather than anything related to his campaign.

The ad represents the latest strange development in Mr. Mittman's dive into politics, which recently featured the doctor tacking right on social issues and investing $75,000 into his own campaign. Furthermore, when rumors of his candidacy first emerged, he did not return three phone calls seeking request for comment.

Another candidate in the race, Assemblyman Rory Lancman, initially sought to knock Mr. Mittman off the ballot, likely under the belief that he would siphon Jewish votes away from his base, but eventually dropped the challenge.

On a mostly unrelated side note, Mr. Mittman's campaign vehicle resembles an ambulance, proudly displaying the slogan, “The Prescription For A Healthy Economy."
Dr. Robert Mittman, the controversial underdog Queens congressional candidate, released a campaign video on YouTube yesterday. So far, only 13 people have watched the clip, which includes footage of Dr. Mittman reading the statement he made when he first announced his campaign interspersed with photos of him and his family, the good doctor at work treating patients and pictures of New York and Washington landmarks all set to the tune of Billy Joel's 1989 hit "We Didn't Start The Fire."

"As a lifelong Queens resident, a parent, a voter and a medical doctor, I am here to offer a precsription for a healthy economy," Dr. Mittman says in the video.

When Dr. Mittman first announced his candidacy, he faced accusations he was a plant designed to split the Jewish vote, which would favor Assemblywoman Grace Meng, the candidate who has the backing of the Queens County Democratic Party. Dr. Mittman has vigorously denied these allegations. In his video, Dr. Mittman slams his three Democratic opponents in the 6th district race; Ms. Meng, Assemblyman Rory Lancman and Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley as career politicians.

"I am running for Congress to get Washington working for you, the people. Unlike all of my opponents in the Democratic primary, I am not a career politician. I'm a medical doctor," he says. "As a doctor, I have been trained to diagnose an illness and prescribe the proper treatment. I'll apply these same techniques as your representative in Congress."

To drive home the point that his experience as a health professional will be a political asset, Dr. Mittman's clip also features the slogan "the prescription for a healthy economy" and his campaign logo, whish is his name alongside a healthy, nutritious apple. For good measure, there's a real-life apple is also shown sitting on his desk.

Noam Chomsky said that there is very little substance beneath Barack Obama’s rhetoric, a point which led The Corner to suggest that the longtime lefty has endorsed Sarah Palin.

Most of the House “Tea Party” freshman in fact, are not.

Rich Becker wasn’t impressed with her mediocre score.

The Senate Republicans unveiled their college affordability plan.

Congressional candidate Dan O’Connor spoke out against current drug laws.

In Brooklyn Heights, they already don’t like the Citibike share program.

If you are hungry, there are 36,000 pounds of Greek yogurt on an upstate highway.

There are elections happening in Idaho, Oregon, and Nebraska tonight.

Most Americans think that Barack Obama will win.

Noam Chomsky said that there is very little substance beneath Barack Obama’s rhetoric, a point which led The Corner to suggest that the longtime lefty has endorsed Sarah Palin.

Obama had an “anodyne” appearance on “The View”, although he did say that he refrained from smoking a cigarette after the Osama bin Laden killing because “Michelle will catch me.”

“‘I’m for Mitt Romney,’ Bush told ABC News this morning as the doors of an elevator closed on him”

Stories on Romney’s time at Bain are popping up all over.

The White House released the financial disclosure forms of Obama and Biden.

Elizabeth Warren was touted as Harvard Law’s “first woman of color” in a Fordham Law Review piece in 1997.

Polls remains mixed over Barack Obama’s announcement that he favors gay marriage.

New York magazine took Mitt Romney Inside the Actor’s Studio.

And maybe Susana Martinez won’t be Mitt Romney’s running mate: 'Self-deport?' What the heck does that mean?"

(Photo: Hunter Walker)

In addition to the notable Michael Grimm news at the Board of Elections today, several other challengers saw their fates decided.

Although three of veteran Congressman Charlie Rangel's challengers, Clyde Williams, Craig Schley, and Joyce Johnson, initially saw objections filed against their signatures, only one, Mr. Schley, had the required specifications filed against his signatures alleging exactly where the validity problems existed.

Even though Mr. Schley's campaign was a bit disorganized in its efforts to defend his signatures (it seemed he had an unauthorized person representing him), Mr. Rangel's campaign didn't show up to press their case, allowing Mr. Schley to cruise onto the ballot. However, Mr. Schley did lose in his largely non-existent efforts to get onto the Independence Party line.

Although we left before the race for an open Queens Congressional seat was evaluated, elections guru Jerry Skurnik, also at the Board of Elections today, tweeted the news that Juan Sheng was successfully knocked off, but the curious Robert Mittman (who has not returned our repeated phone calls), remains on the ballot. Another candidate, Stephen Green, who had initially replaced Jeff Gottlieb, previously declined to be on the ballot.

Conventional wisdom would suggest this outcome is vaguely favorable to one of the more serious congressional candidates, Assemblywoman Grace Meng, as Ms. Sheng may have pulled some Asian-American votes that Ms. Meng would otherwise have received, and vice versa with the Jewish vote for Mr. Mittman and one of Ms. Meng's main rivals, Assemblyman Rory Lancman. A spokesman for Mr. Lancman indicated his campaign would appeal the decision.

On the other hand, City & State reports that Ms. Meng was booted from the Independence Party line, which could matter if the Republican candidate, Dan Halloran, can make this a close election despite the district's Democraticlean.

In addition to Mr. Lancman and Ms. Meng, a third serious Democratic candidate, Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley, is also competing for the June 26th Democratic nomination.
