Koch Robos for Turner: 'Weprin Should Be Ashamed of Himself'

The Bob Turner for Congress campaign has just released a robo-call of former mayor Ed Koch blasting David Weprin for trying to “scare seniors.”

“David Weprin is making phone calls trying to scare seniors,” Koch says in the call. They’re nonsense. Weprin should be ashamed of himself. Bob Turner is running for Congress to protect your Medicare and Social Security.” Read More

The Lieberman, Silver and Weprin Event

Here’s the invitation to congressional candidate David Weprin’s August 31 fund-raiser that will also feature NYS Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and retiring independent Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman. (For $2,500, attendees can get a photo with Lieberman.)

The event will be co-hosted by NORPAC, which says they are “the largest pro-Israel PAC.”

Along with raising money, the event is meant to further insulate Weprin from criticisms that he is not an ardent-enough supporter of Israel. Read More

Quinn Denounces Turner's Mosque Ad: 'Let's Have Some Things in Our Lives Be Sacred'

Republican congressional candidate Bob Turner’s first television ad — which shows images of the World Trade Center buildings on fire during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks — is drawing criticism.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, a Democrat, was in midtown to speak at an international conference on fire fighter safety.

When asked about the ad, Quinn told the Observer nobody should use images like that for politics.

“Look, I don’t think elected officials or people who are running for office should use the tragedy of 9/11 for political gain.” Quinn said. Read More

Turner Tells Obama to Put Jerusalem Back in Israel

A post on the Weekly Standard‘s website that says that the State Department doesn’t recognize people born in Jerusalem as Israeli has been burning up the right-wing blogosphere.

This morning Bob Turner joined in the fight.

President Obama has found a new way to try to humiliate our Israeli allies and placate that nation’s enemies, and he needs to reverse himself immediately,” said Turner, the Republican nominee for the 9th Congressional district. Read More

Turner's First Ad Targets Weprin on Mosque [Video]

One day after a Siena poll showed him to be within six points, Republican Bob Turner is out with his first television ad, attacking his Democratic opponent, David Weprin, for supporting the right to build a mosque near Ground Zero.

The 30-second ad — titled “Send A Message” — opens with a static shot of the Twin Towers on fire, then juxtaposes that with the facade of a mosque, followed by the smiling face of President Obama.

That’s followed by a shot of Weprin saying, “I support the right of the mosque to build.” Read More

Bob Turner's Neighborhood Comes into Question [Updated]

A one-time supporter of Bob Turner who claims to have helped him get the Republican nomination now fears he may squander his shot at upsetting the once heavily-favored Democratic candidate in the Ninth Congressional District, because, in part, Turner lives in a “segregated” community and hasn’t fully engaged the Orthodox Jewish community.

Asher Taub, a lawyer and Orthodox Jew who once considered running for the seat, wrote a letter spelling out what he says Turner needs to do in order to defeat Democratic Assemblyman David Weprin. (According to today’s Siena poll, Weprin leads by only 6 points.)

Turner has to “go to Israel now;” “include Orthodox Jews in the top echelon of his campaign;” and “start personally campaigning in Orthodox areas in a serious fashion.” Read More
