Chamber of Commerce Ramps up Efforts in New York Congressional Races

This morning, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce officially set its sights on six congressional races across New York State and launched ads in each of them. Stretching from Long Island to Buffalo, the broadcast barrage attacks Democratic congressional incumbents Tim Bishop, Kathy Hochul, Bill Owens and Louise Slaughter, and attempts to beat back Democratic candidates Sean Patrick Maloney and Dan Maffei.

The size of the ad buy wasn’t immediately available, but the Chamber launched a significant $3.3 million campaign for California Republicans last week, so their New York  has the potential to be sizable. Read More

Barney Frank Blasts ‘Crazy Tea Party Republicans,’ With ‘Cockamamie Ideas’ And ‘Crazy Fat Cat Friends’

Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank may be retiring at the end of this term, but he still has plenty of fight left in him. Today, Mr. Frank sent out a fiery fundraising email slamming Tea Partiers on behalf of his colleague from Western New York, Louise Slaughter.

“These crazy tea party Republicans make logic disappear faster than Houdini. The worst part is that their crazy fat cat friends are literally throwing money at them to help them win so they can enact their cockamamie ideas,” Mr. Frank wrote. Read More

James Carville: ‘The Tea Party Is Over’

Liberal political consultant James Carville sent a fundraising email to supporters of upstate New York congresswoman Louise Slaughter entitled “The Tea Party is Over.” In the email, Mr. Carville claimed the Tea Party isn’t entirely finished, but he said they can be eliminated by donating to “proud Democrats like Louise Slaughter.”

“These Tea Party Republicans have worn out their welcome. But I’m telling you — getting rid of ‘em won’t be easy. They’re not leaving on their own. We’re going to have to boot them out the door like unwanted house guests,” Mr. Carville wrote. “That’s why we’ve got to get behind proud Democrats like Louise Slaughter to make sure we can win a Democratic Majority.” Read More
