Mitt Romney's strong win last night, scoring 39% overall and 16% more than the second place finisher, Ron Paul, naturally involved winning many different groups. According to CBS News' exit poll, Mr. Romney either won outright or placed a very close second to Mr. Paul across most demographic and ideological categories. The data also reveals that he performed strongest among those describing their views as "somewhat conservative" and the very rich.

Indeed, Mr. Romney, who's very wealthy himself, won more than half of those with families making more than $200,000 a year, one of his highest percentages in the entire exit poll. Among those making $50,000 or less, Mr. Romney only tied Mr. Paul, each earning less than a third of that financially modest vote.

Ideologically, Mr. Romney performed strongest among those describing themselves as "somewhat conservative," seeing his still-substantial support dip with voters who viewed themselves as either "moderate" or "very conservative." Jon Huntsman, who finished third and heavily campaigned in the state, did well with moderate voters while Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, who finished in fourth and fifth place respectively, overperformed with the more conservative ones.

The exit poll also suggests that Mr. Romney's win seems to be almost completely founded on one campaign message: electability. When asked to name which one issue was most important in deciding how they voted, more respondents selected "Can defeat Barack Obama" than anything else. More than 62% of this group supported Mr. Romney.

The next Republican presidential contest will be South Carolina on January 21, where at least one candidate, Rick Perry, appears to be making his last stand. Mr. Perry received less than 1% of the vote in New Hampshire last night.

Moderator George Stephanopoulos ended tonight's Republican presidential debate in New Hampshire by asking the candidate's what they'd be doing tonight if they "weren't here running for president." Rick Perry didn't hesitate before giving his answer.

"I'd probably be at the shooting range," Mr. Perry said.

Mr. Perry spent some time last Friday at an Austin-area shooting range "relaxing" ahead of the debate.

The other candidates also discussed what they'd be doing this evening if they weren't on the campaign trail.

Newt Gingrich was a little confused about his ideal weekend plans.

"I'd be watching the college championship basketball game," Mr. Gingrich said.

"Football game," Mr. Stephanopoulos corrected.

"I mean football game, thank you," Mr. Gingrich said.

Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum said they'd also be watching the football championship. The candidates might not have to miss the BCS championship game after all, since it's scheduled for Monday evening rather than tonight.

Ron Paul stayed on messaged and used Mr. Stephanopoulos' question as an opportunity to burnish his reputation as a great economic mind.

"I'd be home with my family, but if they all went to bed, I'd probably read an economic textbook," Mr. Paul said to laughs from his Republican rivals.

Jon Huntsman ended the debate on a more serious note.

"I'd be on the phone with my two boys in the United States Navy, because they're a constant reminder of what is great about this nation and awesome about the emerging generation in this country," Mr. Huntsman said.

In the final day of campaigning before the Iowa Caucus tomorrow, Mitt Romney compared President Barack Obama to the Kardashians, Michele Bachmann invoked Margaret Thatcher, Newt Gingrich lamented his fall from the front of the pack and Ron Paul plotted a path to the White House. Mr. Romney is currently leading in the latest Iowa polls followed by Mr. Paul. Mr. Santorum is ever so slightly ahead of Mr. Gingrich in third place.

At the moment, Mr. Romney is sitting pretty now that he's cemented his lead in Iowa and is ahead by a wide margin in the next primary state, New Hampshire. At an event in Iowa yesterday, Mr. Romney took a shot at President Obama by comparing campaign promises the Commander in Chief made in Iowa during the last election cycle to Kim Kardashian's brief, headline happy marriage to NBA star Kris Humphries.

"You know, I’ve been looking at some video clips on YouTube, of President Obama, then candidate Obama, going through Iowa making promises,” Mr. Romney said. “The gap between his promises and his performance is the largest I’ve seen since, well, the Kardashian wedding and the promise of ‘till death do us part.’ "

Mr. Paul was conspicuously absent from Iowa this weekend, but his advisors say they're confident thanks to large grassroots organizing effort on the ground there and the improbable rise in the polls that has him within sight of a win. Regardless of what happens in Iowa tomorrow, Mr. Paul apparently hopes to capitalize on his momentum, organization and his legions of enthusiastic young supporters to pick up a coalition of local Republican delegates and remain in the race up until the Republican convention in Tampa in August.

If record sales are any indication, Mr. Paul does seem poised to make an impact. Pop singer Kelly Clarkson experienced a bump in downloads of her most recent album after she made a controversial endorsement of Mr. Paul on Twitter.

Mr. Santorum has ridden a boost of his own into third place. In an appearance on Des Moines sports radio station KXNO, he attempted to win over more voters by saying he understands peoples who are frustrated with the tax system because he does his own taxes and has trouble keeping the paperwork straight.

"Every year when I do them, I always get a little note from the government, 'You screwed this up, you messed this up,' you know you didn't do this or that,'" Mr. Santorum said.

Mr. Gingrich, who was polling ahead of his rivals once upon a time about two weeks ago, is not pleased to find himself in fourth. At a recent campaign stop, Mr. Gingrich blamed his slide on the millions of dollars Mr. Romney spent on ads in Iowa.

"I’ve been Romney-boated," Mr. Gingrich said, referencing the 2004 "Swift Boat" ads that torpedoed the presidential campaign of Massachusetts Senator John Kerry.

With bleak prospects in Iowa, Mr. Gingrich is already looking forward to South Carolina where he has a commanding lead in the polls.

Mr. Perry was also munching on sour grapes as he savored position at the back of the caucus pack with Ms. Bachmann and Jon Huntsman. In a Fox News interview today, Mr. Perry criticized Mr. Santorum and Ms. Bachmann as unprepared to mount successful White House campaigns.

"Rick Santorum and Michele Bachmann don’t have a national organization in place nor the fundraising ability to go forward out of Iowa, and so I’m the only one that actually has that ability," Mr. Perry said.

Mr. Perry, Mr. Santorum and Ms. Bachmann are all hoping to woo conservative, evangelical voters who are dissatisfied with Mr. Romney.

Ms. Bachmann, a native Iowan, focused much of her early efforts on the Hawkeye State and won the Iowa Straw Poll in August. In spite of that focus, Ms. Bachmann has failed to draw crowds in Iowa and is fighting to avoid a last place finish that many observers expect would knock her out of the race. Hoping to pull off a "miracle" win, Ms. Bachmann released a new TV ad to air in Iowa that highlights her hometown roots and dubs her "America's 'Iron Lady,'" a red, white and blue version of Margaret Thatcher.

Jon Huntsman has largely ignored the Iowa Caucus to focus on pulling off a strong finish in New Hampshire. He spent the weekend pushing supporters to help him pay to get an anti-Romney ad on the air in the Granite State, however it seems his efforts may actually be helping Mr. Romney stay ahead. Mr. Huntsman is currently in fourth place in New Hampshire behind Mr. Romney, Mr. Paul and Mr. Gingrich.

Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann is in midtown Manhattan this morning hosting a "private reception" for her presidential campaign. Congresswoman Bachmann is meeting with her supporters at the Radisson Martinique on 32nd Street and Broadway. 

New York has been a hotbed of Republican primary activity this week. Jon Huntsman was in town yesterday for a fundraiser at actor Ben Stein's house on Park Avenue. Newt Gingrich was also here yesterday to meet with Donald Trump and attend the influential monthly Monday Meeting.

Congresswoman Bachmann has focused her efforts on the early primary in Iowa. According to a new poll by the Des Moines Register, her poll numbers there have dropped to the single digits placing her behind Mr. Gingrich, Ron Paul and Mitt Romney.

According to the report, Mr. Huntsman made a typically low-key visit to the grave site of a revered rabbi.

Despite some glowing early press attention, Mr. Hunstman has struggled in the polls, frequently failing to get above the margin of error. But keeping his visit to New York's Hasidic neighborhoods under the radar is probably smart politics, since such visits have been known to fell other aspiring pols.

Without much fanfare, as customary there, Republican presidential contender Jon Huntsman, Jr., visited the Ohel resting place of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson this past Tuesday in Cambria Heights, NY.

The former governor of Utah and U.S. Ambassador to China was in the Big Apple for a breakfast fundraiser at the Penn Club in New York City.

Huntsman later joined a key supporter of his from Brooklyn,Harvey Kaylie, founder and president of Mini-Circuits, a worldwide leader in RF and Microwave signal processing components, for a trip to Queens to seek a blessing.

The two, flanked by their wives, Mary Kaye Huntsman andGloria Kaylie, were welcomed by Chabad rabbis at the Ohel Chabad-Lubavitch Center, a synagogue and visitors house near the Old Montefiore cemetery.

While there, they met Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, chairman of Merkos - the worldwide educational and social service arms of Chabad-Lubavitch; Rabbi Levi Shemtov, Washington director of American Friends of Lubavitch; and Rabbi Benny Zippel, executive director of Chabad-Lubavitch of Utah.

At the Rebbe's resting place, which is visited every year by tens of thousands of people seeking inspiration and blessings, the Huntsmans reportedly prayed for the wellbeing of their family, the American people and humanity at large.

In his conversations with rabbinical leaders at the holy site, Huntsman expressed his admiration for the work of Chabad-Lubavitch emissaries around the globe, particularly in his home state.

"I told a group in Utah when I was speaking the other day, I cannot escape my spiritual advisers," Huntsman told them, according to one account.

"I have Chabad close by wherever I go, and I am blessed by that."

As governor, Huntsman attended Chabad's Menorah lighting in Salt Lake City, had Rabbi Zippel deliver the invocation at his second inaugural and took him along when he visited Israel in 2009.

Even after moving to Washington, DC, Chabad was not far away as the Huntsmans live literally next door to the offices of American Friends of Lubavitch in Kalorama/Embassy Row.

In fact, shortly after the Huntsman family moved in to their pricey Washington digs (the house went for almost $4 million) they invited Rabbi Shemtov and his wife Nechama Shemtov for a visit.

Former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman released a new web video attacking his fellow Republican Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney today. Mr. Huntsman's ad employs the metaphor of a weathervane shifting in the wind to push the popular perception of Mr. Romney as a flip flopper. 

Mr. Huntsman's ad features ominous piano music underscoring a splitscreen showing a wobbling weathervane alongside footage of Mr. Romney making a series of seemingly contradictory statements on his health care plan, President Barack Obama's economic stimulus, withdrawing troops from Iraq, climate change and tax increases. The ad closes with footage of Mr. Huntsman proclaiming, "You can’t be a perfectly lubricated weather vane on the important issues of the day."

Mr. Romney has been dogged by the impression he flip flops on the issues for years now. Aside from the farm analogies, Texas governor Rick Perry used a similar tactic in his own anti-Romney ad released October 20. Mr. Romney is currently on top in the polls along with Herman Cain while Mr. Huntsman is at the back of the pack.
