Earlier this morning, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced her resignation to enter the world of academia, prompting immediate speculation as to whom President Barack Obama would nominate to replace her.

One name that popped up in a few places is none other than NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly–and New York’s senior senator, Chuck Schumer is a fan.

Janet Napolitano Denies Existence of ‘Orwellian State’

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano weighed in on the NSA intelligence leaks on Friday, telling NY1 that fears over government surveillance were overblown.

“I think people have gotten the idea that there’s an Orwellian state out there that somehow we’re operating in. That’s far from the case,” she told Errol Louis during an appearance on Road to City Hall.

WASHINGTON — Mayor Michael Bloomberg is in Washington D.C. today meeting with lawmakers and other officials about his request for billions of dollars in federal aid to help the city recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy last month in New York.
