Debi Rose For Congress?

...That's what Staten Island political columnist Tom Wrobleski reported in this weekend's Staten Island Advance.

Less than two years after capturing the North Shore City Council seat, Democrat Debi Rose may have her eyes on a higher-profile post.

Sources have told the Advance that Ms. Rose is considering a run for Congress next year against Rep. Michael Grimm (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn).

“She is exploring the possibility of running for Congress,” a knowledgeable Democrat told the Advance. “There’s a lot of talk about it among her supporters. I think she’s very interested in doing this.”

When asked about her intentions, Ms. Rose did not deny that she is looking at a House run.

“While I am not ready to reveal my future political plans at this time, I am doing an assessment of the best way to continue to serve the people of Staten Island,” she said.

Rose is now the third name to be floated to take on Grimm, including investment banker Robert Diamond and Bill de Blasio aide Mark Murphy.

The incumbent Democrat who Grimm defeated by two percentage points in 2010, Mike McMahon, remains non-committal, waiting, according to people who have spoken with him, to see what the district lines look like following reapportionment.

Rose would likely have a tough time winning a borough-wide race. She is a favorite of the island's progressive wing, but barely won a seat in the North Shore council district against a Kenny Mitchell, a former McMahon aide.

Here's a 2-minute video featuring Councilwoman Tish James of Brooklyn and others explaining why they are rallying against Wall Street today and pushing the mayor to roll back service cuts he proposed in his budget.

"It's time that we march on Wall Street," said James, who referred to them as "the people who were responsible for this recession."

Councilwoman Debi Rose said, "We are not going to allow the mayor to break the unions," and "they are going to feel the wrath of working people in New York City."

Video after the jump.

Expected to march from City Hall to Wall Street today are Reverend Al Sharpton, Public Advocate Bil de Blasio, Comptroller John Liu, UFT President Michael Mulgrew and others.

In the past, Mayor Bloomberg has criticized New York lawmakers who bash Wall Street, saying it's hurtful and not the kind of treatment you'd expect to see. He equated it with the way Michigan lawmakers defend the auto industry, and Texas lawmakers defend the oil industry.
