Public Advocate and mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio has a new enemy in the battle over higher education spending: former General David Petraeus.
CUNY has come under increasing scrutiny since it was revealed that they will pay Mr. Petraeus–who resigned as CIA director last year after an FBI investigation revealed an extramarital affair with his biographer–$150,000 to teach just three hours a week. Needless to say, this amount is significantly higher than the salaries of most full-time professors and Mr. de Blasio disapproves.
The ongoing scandal over former CIA Director David Petraeus’ affair and the September attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya were two of the main topics when President Barack Obama had his first post-election White House press conference this afternoon. President Obama promised thorough investigations would be done to uncover details about the FBI investigation that unearthed the Petraeus scandal and the circumstances surrounding the Benghazi attack. He also had high praise for Mr. Petraeus and harsh words for anyone who might attempt to block him from nominating diplomat Susan Rice as secretary of state because her role in the widely-criticized shifting explanations for the Libyan embassy attack.

Writers who craft the infamous “ripped from the headlines” plots on Law & Order: SVU are apparently having trouble keeping up with the ongoing scandal over former CIA Director and retired general David Petraeus’ affair with his biographer. Now that the story has grown to include another general and an FBI agent accused of sending shirtless pictures of himself to a woman the man in charge of the sex crimes-focused cop show sent a tweet begging for mercy. He also threw in Sesame Street muppet Elmo, who had a sex scandal of his own break this week.

David Petraeus, the CIA Director and former commanding general of the coalition forces in Iraq, is the latest public official to be identified as a finalist in Mitt Romney’s veepstakes by the influential conservative news site The Drudge Report. In an effort to get to know a more personal side of Mr. Petraeus, we perused the websites written by his daughter, Anne, a prolific lifestyle blogger who is studying to become a registered dietician and sells her own line of “Will Run For Bacon” T-shirts.
Before President Obama released his long-form birth certificate and Donald Trump held court in New Hampshire, the big national news this morning was that the White House would shuffle C.I.A. Director Leon Panetta into the role of Defense Secretary and replace him with General David Petraeus.
