Mayor Bill de Blasio took his infamous “dad humor” to The Daily Show this evening, where he took jabs at the Upper East Side and his predecessor Michael Bloomberg, and proved he could eat pizza like a normal New Yorker: with his hands, according to a mayoral pool report.
“What else could we do to the Upper East Side?” asked host Jon Stewart, who earlier had joked about the new mayor shipping snow to the tony neighborhood, where some residents complained about cleanup after last month’s second major snowstorm.
The Daily Show has been off-air since the start of Hurricane Sandy, but the show came roaring back to life last night and managed to give props to Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Governor Andrew Cuomo and Governor Chris Christie, all in his new segment, “A Daily Show Tribute to Institutional Competence.”
But Jon Stewart could still get some traditional comedic digs in, pulling out a big soda cup, for example, before discussing Mr. Bloomberg and quipping, “I think we all agree, if these cups were still legal, maybe the city wouldn’t have flooded at all.”
Earlier this evening, President Barack Obama sat down with Jon Stewart to tape an extended, fourteen minute interview for The Daily Show set to air later tonight. While we don’t know everything that was said, a good portion of the discussion was included in a recently-distributed White House pool report.
Mr. Stewart began by declaring he’s making a campaign scrapbook, and he showed Mr. Obama two pictures and said they came from the presidential debates. As the pool report put it, “One showed Michelle Obama looking at him very angrily onstage afterward, and the other showed her smiling broadly at him afterward.”
“Do you know which debate was which?” Mr. Stewart asked.
Fox News head honcho Roger Ailes gave a commencement speech at Ohio University yesterday in which he accused MSNBC, the AP and The New York Times of left wing bias and described Daily Show host Jon Stewart as a “socialist.” Media blogger Jim Romenesko compiled Tweets describing the content of the speech that were written by media lawyer Media lawyer and Harvard Law & Policy Review blogger Jonathan W. Peters, who witnessed the address and posted quotes from Mr. Ailes’ remarks.
“Jon Stewart is a comedian. He wouldn’t do well without Fox. And he basically has admitted to me, in a bar, that he’s a socialist,” Mr. Ailes said, according to Mr. Peters. “The New York Times is a cesspool of bias.”
RICHMOND, VA — The Daily Show‘s “Senior Latino Correspondent,” Al Madrigal, brought a sombrero, poncho, nachos and a bottle of Jose Cuervo tequila to President Barack Obama’s campaign kickoff rally at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond today.
