Lady Gaga Thanks Her Defender, Scott Stringer

Earlier this week, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer issued a statement in support of the pop singer Lady Gaga after Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro deemed her a “slut” due to her alleged onstage drug use. Today, Ms. Gaga returned the favor.

“To @scottmstringer of Manhattan, thanku for your support of my activism as a new yorker. You show political integrity + a modern vernacular,” the musician wrote on TwitterRead More

Ed Koch Would Have Liked to See Justin Timberlake Nude in New Movie

Former Mayor Ed Koch is an avid movie watcher who maintains an email list where  he sends out his reviews. His review of the news sports drama “Trouble with the Curve” was released earlier today and it is particularly amusing. Mr. Koch, who labeled the film “really bad,” was clearly not a fan.

Specifically, he was upset with the lack of on-screen romance between the film’s two younger stars. Read More

Scott Stringer Defends Lady Gaga

At an anti-drug event yesterday, Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro slammed pop singer Lady Gaga for her alleged drug use and called the musician “a slut in the pure, in the pure meaning of the word.” Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, who is a friend of Ms. Gaga’s family, took objection to Mr. Molinaro’s comments and came to the singer’s defense with a statement today.

“Lady Gaga’s work is a symbol of individuality and artistic expression. In addition to her artistic pursuits, she is a social justice activist and a real leader for marriage equality in this country,” Mr. Stringer told Politicker. “And no matter which continent Gaga happens to be in today, she remains an Upper West Sider at heart.” Read More

Ex-Staffer on Roseanne’s Presidential Campaign Claims She Never Got Paid

In late January, the comedienne and former sitcom star Roseanne Barr declared her intention to run for president on the Green Party line. Ms. Barr’s Green Party bid ultimately proved unsuccessful after Massachusetts doctor Jill Stein secured the party’s nomination at its convention in July. Now, Ms. Barr is continuing her quest for the White House as a candidate for the Peace and Freedom Party with anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan as her running mate. However, Ms. Barr may not have tied up all the loose ends associated with her first campaign.

Anita Stewart, who said she served as Press Secretary Ms. Barr’s Green Party bid, told Politicker she is owed $4,300 for her work on the campaign. Ms. Stewart claimed she has spent nearly the past three months fighting to get the money Ms. Barr agreed to pay her and said the delay in payment has caused her immense hardships. She said the situation is especially egregious given the fact Ms. Barr has made millions through her comedy and TV career and ranked as the second-highest-paid woman in showbiz (behind only Oprah Winfrey) during the final two years of her eponymous sitcom in the late nineties.

“Right now, I’m living below poverty level wages,” Ms. Stewart said adding that she has been unable to take care of medical expenses and has had trouble maintaining her car, which she needs to travel to and from work in the small town where she lives about fifty miles outside of Tampa, Florida. President Obama Parties With Jay-Z and Beyoncé

Hip-hop’s biggest power couple, Jay-Z and Beyoncé, held a fundraiser for President Barack Obama tonight at Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club in Manhattan. In his speech at the event, Mr. Obama discussed his daughters’ love for the musicians and what he and Jay-Z have in common.

“Let me just begin by saying to Jay and Bey, thank you so much for your friendship. We are so grateful. Michelle and Malia and Sasha are mad at me because they are not here,” Mr. Obama said. “That doesn’t usually happen. Usually they’re like, we’re glad you’re going–we don’t need to go. But every time they get a chance to see these two they are thrilled, partly because they are just both so generous, particularly to my kids. And Malia and Sasha just love both of them.” Read More

Hall & Oates Got Rid of the Super PAC That Was Named After Them

TAMPA, FL — Last week, the Federal Election Commission officially recognized a Super PAC named after the 70′s and 80′s musical duo Hall & Oates, but the group apparently didn’t have the blessing of its namesake. Jonathan Wolfson, the manager of Daryl Hall and John Oates, sent the Politicker a statement this evening announcing that “Hall and Oates Fans For America” was dissolved because Mr. Hall and Mr. Oates had “concerns” about being associated with political fundraising.

“Representatives of Daryl Hall and John Oates have been in contact with the founders of the Hall and Oates Fans For America Super PAC and are pleased to report that the group’s concerns regarding the unauthorized use of their names for fundraising purposes by the Super PAC have been amicably resolved and that the Super PAC is being dissolved by the founders,” Mr. Wolfson said. Congressman Joe Crowley’s Office Explains His ‘Call Me Maybe’ Dance Video

This morning, Queens Congressman Joe Crowley was caught by the Today Show cameras enjoying a live performance of Canadian pop songstress Carly Rae Jepsen’s megahit “Call Me Maybe.” According to Courtney Gidner, a spokeswoman for Mr. Crowley, the congressman was in attendance at the concert, which was part of the Today show’s summer concert series, with his three children, who are all under the age of 13. The group arrived “bright and early” so they would be able to get a good view.

“He brought his kids, his kids are big fans of Carly Rae Jepsen, and so he brought them to the concert this morning,” Ms. Gidner told Politicker. “So, I think he might win father of the year for bringing his kids to that concert.”

We pointed out to Ms. Gidner that, based on the footage, it appears Mr. Crowley is also a big fan of Ms. Jepsen in his own right. Ms. Gidner conceded that the congressman did indeed enjoy the singer’s performance. Read More
