Former Congressman and mayoral contender Anthony Weiner went after what he described as “policy jihadists,” the media and his opponents in an extended barroom interview this evening with BuzzFeed’s Ben Smith.

The sit-down, which spanned from serious to silly, gave Mr. Weiner–nursing a non-alcoholic milky-looking beverage to Mr. Smith’s beer–a rare chance to talk about something other than the sexting scandal that has consumed his campaign in recent weeks, sending his poll numbers plummeting.

Alex Laska, a communications aide and staff assistant to Democratic Connecticut Congressman Jim Himes apparently takes bagels pretty seriously. After reading a listicle entitled “84 Things That Aren’t On An Everything Bagel” on the online meme-machine BuzzFeed.com, Mr. Laska posted a comment expressing his wish the writer of the list, Katie Notopoulos, would commit suicide.

“I want the next thing Katie Notopoulos posts on here to be her suicide note,” Mr. Laska wrote via his personal Facebook page, which identified him as an employee of the House of Representatives. BuzzFeed recently reported on the existence of a file prepared by Governor Cuomo’s staff on Capital Tonight blogger Liz Benjamin, which generated much discussion and amusement among New York’s political reporters. While Mr. Cuomo’s staff has insisted there is nothing unusual about the report, which was created to discuss with senior executives at Capital Tonight‘s parent company, Mr. Cuomo’s predecessor, former Governor David Paterson, told The Politicker he didn’t keep such files on reporters.

“No I didn’t have any files,” Mr. Paterson said when asked about BuzzFeed’s report after his press conference on taxi accessibility earlier today. “They had them on me!”
